How many of you actually interact with or know government workers?

Or do you lump everyone into the DMV, post office mold? Or the random person on the internet making comments about not doing anything on their government job.

Government work used to be seen as prestigious. They sacrifice salary for public service and security.

It’s not their fault wage stagnation has kept the private sector jobs relatively the same while the government employees get yearly COLAs and good benefits.

Is it legitimate for you or is it just lack of understanding and jealousy?

Brother in law works the support desk for the VA.

He does absolutely nothing and is coasting until retirement.

Cut his arse.

I have a relative who is pretty high up in the department of the interior, I hope she keeps her job, but she is good at her job and would land on her feet if something happens.

Right?

I know two very well.

They're not going to be subjected to firing because they're not bags of crap.

Most of the people in FedGov that I work with are scientists and physicists, or electrical, optical or mechanical engineers working for DOEnergy, DODefense or NASA.

I know a few that work for USDOT or its sub-agencies, they're pretty good and bust their asses.

Know how you don't know any government workers? This statement right here. Feds pay very well after a few years of rising up the G level ladder.

I work very closely with the Louisiana Department of Health as a contractor. Like anywhere else, they have good employees and others with poor performance. Overall my experience working with them has been pretty good.

It’s more the lobbyists and elected legislators that are adversarial.

I know or am acquainted with hundreds of military base workers and it’s a going joke amongst them and amongst our community about how little amount of work they put in while “at work” at the base: like, 2 hours a day of actual work, the rest dicking around.

Military has a term for that:

What fricking sacrifice? They get a paycheck, retirement, good work environment and job protections no one in the free market would ever get.

I have to deal with VA workers from time to time. They're fricking terrible.
