Parents: What's the oldest you ever had to read to a kid at bedtime?

Not including those with disabilities who need extra care.
5? 7? 11? 26?

Mine will be 7 on Friday and we still read stories together. Sometimes I read, sometimes he does. I love it.

I've never had to do it, none of ours have really asked us to do it so we would just do it. It's more of an issue of them not letting us do it when they grow out of it.
My wife is 44 and I read her news articles when she is driving so I guess my answer is 44.
My 8 year old likes to sleep with the t.v on so I put on shows from my childhood. Wild America, mutual of Omaha and stuff like that. He just completed the entire mr wizard series. I get caught up watching sometimes and he has to shoo me out of his room lol

Don’t complain! I would happily read to my kids for years and years if they would let me. My oldest is just four and basically refuses to let me read to him anymore. It hurts…

I hope I get to do it for many more years. Best part of my day.

My youngest is 17 and I miss those years.

This is how you do it.

Mine is 5 turning 6 soon and he has started to read the stories to me/my wife. Hoping this continues for a while but I've heard from others that it fizzles out between 6-8. Feel like this is one of the big things people look back on and wish it still happened after their kid grows us

My oldest is 8. She reads to us for her AR points. We do still rock every night for 15 mins. She says it helps her calm down.

What else yall got?

Read to them as long as they will let you. Hug them as long as them will let you. Kiss them as long as they will let you. There is no better feeling than your 18 yo running to hug you on a ball field or track after a huge playoff win.

I read Shel Silverstein to my 8 year old every night. It’s legitimately my favorite part of my day. I’m going to be crushed when this phase of life ends.

This was one of the fast money questions when i was on family feud last year. I said 12, pretty sure 10 was number 1 answer

7 or 8. I’d pay good money to read to my little girls again. Now they’re teenagers.

My kids are all older, some adults with kids of their own. If any of them asks I will still read them a bedtime story.

Mine are both under 3, and I try to savor every moment of bedtime stories.

Man...read to them as long as you can
Share the stories. Sing the songs
Because one day you'll sing your last lullaby
The Last Lullaby
Well there's not, much else, that lingers,
Like the moment that they're born,
As they wrap their tiny fingers,
And you'll find your heart is gone,
Yeah there's such a simple sweetness,
Soothing softly as they'll cry,
When you're singing to your children,
Savor on every last lullaby
Well they'll beg for bedtime stories,
And they'll hang on to every last word,
Making voices sounding silly,
Illustrations so absurd,
And they'll have you read the same ones,
'Til you've memorized each page,
All those happy times over 'n over,
Building mem'ries as you age
But the day's gonna come,
In the blink of an eye,
When you find yourself singin'
At last,
The Last Lullaby,
The Last Lullaby,
It's a bittersweet song,
For those lullaby days,
Well they won't last for long,
When you turn out the lights,
You'll be choking back tears,
But just count yourself lucky,
You got Lullaby Years
[verse]
Well your oldest will, get older,
A hard truth, it seems, for sure,
When you go to sing, "not tonight daddy."
And you'll slowly shut that door,
You can feel your heart just achin'
Fighting teardrops in your eyes,
And you'll find your voice is breakin'
As you sing the chords of the last lullaby,
Yeah your younger ones still wanna hear 'em,
So you sing them with all of your soul,
Well you'll find yourself desperately clingin'
To each good night note now as you go,
All the stories they'd drift off to dream with,
Well they don't ask for them anymore,
And before long it seems you'll be singin'
The Last Lullaby, right out the door,
[chorus]
Yeah the day's gonna come,
Soon enough, and you'll cry,
It's a heart wrenching hymn,
That you'll long for again,
For that Last Lullaby
The Last Lullaby,
It's a bittersweet song,
For those lullaby days,
Well they won't last for long,
When you turn out the lights,
You'll be choking back tears,
But just count yourself lucky,
You got Lullaby Years
[bridge]
It's the way of the world,
So keep singin'
You might hear those same songs,
When they're grown,
Crying those happy tears,
As they're clingin',
Singing sweet lullabies,
Of their own
[outro]
Well I tell you hang on,
For as long as you can,
And if you're lucky you'll get,
Lullaby Days again
