Apparently SSN uses this old shite and it defaulted to 1869 or some shite if no date of birth was entered. None of his code army knows Cobalt. Lol.
Could have hired me for that shite but I barely remember it as it was damn near 50 years ago.

almost nobody learns Cobal anymore, which means there is some "security" built into the system via the incompatibility with normal teaching methods...kind of the same issue with Floppy disks still being used. It's not that the upgrade is not needed, it's just that it would be more expensive and open up the system to security issues not yet experienced because of the age of the coding system used.
That's pretty much the argument
However, if you can learn other coding languages at a fast clip (particularly C or C++ or FORTRAN) then you should be good with learning COBOL.

Seems like converting a Cobol system to C or newer is exactly why AI was created.

yeah it can be done. But still takes human overseers to figure out if the code is compatible or not.
AI isn't end all for programming stuff just yet.
