I know it’s not great competition, but only giving up 2 ERs in an entire weekend series is extremely impressive.
The only thing more impressive than that is 2 walks in 27 innings.

the only pitcher that didnt look in control was Mayers, and he was effectively wild.

VERY happy with only 2 BB

Competition wasn’t great but only two walks by the whole staff is fantastic.

That’s big. I know you can go right at these hitters a lot more than a sec lineup, but most of last years staff didn’t even have the ability to do that. The difference in walks shows that

The staff overall looks pretty nice but BOY, this freshmen pitching staff looks REALLY good. Gonna be a fun 3 years to come if they all stay together.
ETA: the command of the zone with that type of velocity is what really hits home. If they can command 2-3 pitches like that this year, there’s no reason why this team can’t make it to Omaha.

I think the staff opening weekend last year had something like 15 walks for reference. And that was a sign of things to come. Great sign for this group.

It's Purdue Fort Wayne, let's not forget that.

You are averaging about half a post a day over the last 11 or so years and it’s probably still too much. Post less

My favorite part
Jays had too many meltdown Ps in recent years
Of course this team could not apply real pressure. We’ll see how it goes when we play better teams

I just checked the 3 games that went 9 innings and yeah 15 walks. The other difference is consistent scoring because other the games against VMI we really didn't do much against Central Arkansas

I don’t care who you play, that’s impressive pitching stats. Definitely don’t miss the days of Maineiri teams giving up 22 runs a weekend to UTSA!

PM kinda butchered this pitching staff and JJ has done a decent job methodically building it back.
I don't expect perfection but this was damn close to it.

Held them to 0 RBI. Passed ball and pickle play were their 2 runs.
