even if they do audit fort knox, the audit results will never be released. if it was revealed there was no gold there, it would bring the system down.

The Nazis were in power years before WW2. This was government gold from then they would say.

Is there anything really economically hinging at this point on the assumption that there is some certain amount of gold sitting at Fort Knox?

Gold is nearing $3k/oz......it's likely going well above $3k if there's an audit of US gold reserves.
I did see where central banks around the globe have purchased nearly 3000 metric tons of gold since 2021 which is 5x their usual gold purchases, looks like central banks are hedging.

Seems like that burden would be for them to provide it is theirs. Germans were the group that stole all they could in treasures of any kind
