Roger Wicker says Hegseth made a bad speech, says Tucker Carlson is a fool

I don't think what he said is that bad, but I despise Roger Wicker and love any opportunity to trash him. I think it’s particularly stupid to go after Tucker Carlson, who is arguably the most powerful influence that exists on the right, and is notoriously petty.

GOP senator on Hegseth Ukraine remarks: ‘Rookie mistake’

quote:

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) painted recent remarks from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on whether Ukraine would be welcomed into NATO a “rookie mistake.”

“Hegseth is going to be a great Defense secretary, although he wasn’t my choice for the job,” Wicker told Politico on Friday. “But he made a rookie mistake in Brussels, and he’s walked back some of what he said, but not that line.”

The newly minted Defense chief has seemingly walked back the comments, clarifying Thursday that President Trump is leading the negotiations and that “everything is on the table.”

“I don’t know who wrote the speech — it is the kind of thing Tucker Carlson could have written, and Carlson is a fool,” Wicker told Politico’s Jonathan Martin on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

“Everybody knows … and people in the administration know, you don’t say before your first meeting what you will agree to and what you won’t agree to,” he added later.

Wicker has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine since Russia’s initial invasion nearly three years ago. He said he was “heartened” by Hegseth’s move to retract his controversial statements.

“There are good guys and bad guys in this war, and the Russians are the bad guys,” Wicker said.

“They invaded, contrary to almost every international law, and they should be defeated,” the Mississippi Republican added. “And Ukraine is entitled to the promises that the world made to it.”

This phrase highlights the difference between the Globalists and MAGA. MAGA doesn't believe in doing what "the world" wants.

The government of the United States exists only to further the rights and interests of the people of the United States. If US citizens want to donate to foreign people and causes (certainly noble deeds), they are free to do so.

President Trump's victory was a clear sign that the American people do NOT want endless support for Ukraine.

What did he say that was wrong?

The fact that Hegseth had to walk back what he said means that Wicker is correct about his assessment of the statement—if not, then why the (partial) retraction?

And as for Tucker Carlson being a fool, that's a yes and no kind of thing. He says lots of (mostly) foolish things, but I think he knows better. I think he's just playing the populist right crowd like a fiddle and supplying the constant stream of conspiracy theories and doomsday predictions that they crave. So in that sense he's crazy like a fox.

I guess you can argue that Wicker didn't need to say anything and the fact that he chose to anyway makes him a dumbass, but if that's the argument...meh.

But make no mistake, Huckster Carlson is not good for the right. He's like a drug dealer. The addicts all love him, but he erodes the mental health of the base.

So we negotiate with Putin to sell them out and force the decision on them unilaterally without their input.

Let me guess, Wicker thinks Tucker is a Putin puppet. So lazy.

Wicker should go on Tucker's show and debate the fool then. Show the fool how smart he is about why taxpayers should fund an unwinnable war, getting millions killed and maimed all for nothing but to line the pockets of MICs and politicians. Wicker and his armed services thieves have really shown Putin.....made him richer, stronger but make sure you wear that Ukraine lapel pin.

It's a little silly. Sure you say everything is on the table in negotiations.
But also everyone knows NATO membership means Russia wouldn't stop ever in completely taking over Ukraine.

This is just a brain dead meaningless statement, and I doubt you want to get in the weeds defending it.

I said right off the bat that what he said wasn’t that bad, and it’s because I agree with that particular sentiment, but it is a foolish battle for him to pick with the current environment, as head of the armed services committee

Once again, I doubt this is something you’d be willing to get in the weeds to defend. A lot of things he says probably make you uncomfortable and go against the sensibilities you have, and I’d be willing to guess that you don’t even listen to him yourself, but the people who you do listen to are in the anti Carlson camp and give you plenty of curated opinions.

If Carlson permanently covered only hostile and dissident topics, even when the country was making progress, I would agree with you. But he was an invaluable tool for drumming up healthy and needed dissent the last few years, so this will have to remain to be seen.

mind you i'm not saying you'd suck a c*ck maybe just put it in you're mouth and swish it around a little bit. i guess bill kristol ought to be the face of the republican party.

let me help you understand something jethrine what's happening with doge is going to destroy what ever legacy the george w. obama administration ever had and the UNIPARTY forever. if you actually think ukraine is going to be a nato member under trump you're outside your mind crazy.

muh ukraine is over the uniparty lost another humiliating defeat for the uniparty but a win for the american people.

Lol. We just need a steady diet of Bush, Cheney, McCain and Romney right? Frick that. The Republican Party was a non-interventionist party until the neocons perverted it. Time for the Buchananites, the Ron Paul disciples and the MAGA crowd to unite and get back to the old ways.

Someone needs to give Wicker a list of regime changes the US is responsible for in the last 60 years.
Compared to the US's evil, Putin's a BoyScout.

We negotiate with Putin to achieve what's best for the United States. What Ukraine and Europe decide to do afterwards is up to them.
