It’s no secret the popular opinion of most is kids lack social and other developmental skills by never interacting with other kids their age. Same can be said when applying the impatience and selfishness of an only child.

Same can be said for adults esp young adults who never go to an office. You don’t learn the three Cs (communication, coordination, collaboration) and don’t get the career development needed to warrant higher level promotions. It’s that simple.

We don’t hire you to ‘do your job’. We hire you to be part of the company.

You don’t get promoted by simply getting your job done. You get groomed and promoted within a company culture learned through the three Cs and by bring more to the table than ‘I did my job’ so gimme this.

Let that sink in. You want to be homeschooled or do you want to grow with a team?

What an absolutely dumbass argument.

Do you really believe people that WFH do not collaborate?

I can’t believe you wasted everyone’s time with this. No facts, no context, just a random thought.

Sir, this is a McDonald’s.

Not everyone wants to base their identity solely on where they work or what they do. You sound like a manager at WalMarks trying to rally a bunch of wage slaves.

WFH vs homeschooling

Not trying to derail your thread, but I just wanted to say that the beginning of Covid when we had two adults working from home and two kids (HS and middle school) virtual learning at home, along with a brand new baby...that was absolutely fricking miserable. We have a small house to being with, but man that shite sucked so bad.

Literally the only positive from it was being home with my son and getting to watch him learn and grow for those months.

I'm not a homeschooler and have no desire to be but to say they get no social interaction is just wrong. Alot of homeschoolers have co-ops and meet with other students during the week. Also have you not heard that there are sports outside school?

I’ve long said that the biggest issue with WFH, aside from all of the time theft, is worker development and instilling company culture into new hires.

Weird hill to die on. I'll never understand the boomer bootlicker mentality but I guess that's how the country ended up the way it is.

Weren't you guys on here the other day complaining about middle America small towns being depopulated and high housing prices? You do realize WFH helps with that.

Homeschooled kids still have friends and get together.

They still turn out weird.

Nah. If it helped with that then no one would be complaining about small towns being depopulated. Younger people don’t want to live in the sticks even if they do WFH.

At the end of the day...can you tell the customer..."well, we may not have gotten the deliverable to you, but everyone engaged was really part of the company"?

I'd much rather say, "Here's your finished product on time, meeting all required specifications." After that, you reward the people who are doing the job, helping the company get more business. If they are doing that at home...ok. If they are doing it at the office...ok. The ones in the office may be positioned better for upward movement, but that's just part of it.

At the end of the day, I want the product to reflect well on the company more than I want to stick to my 1990's Harvard Business School Articles...or whatever I'm using to force my outdated management style.

I have been promoted 3 times since going full WFH and just getting my job done.

Sorry you don’t know how to communicate, coordinate, or collaborate through technology.

Small towns are still depopulated.

Where are you getting the idea that people who WFH are moving out to small towns?

The workforce survived working in an office before 2020.

You bums will be ok.
