The fact that the wealthiest counties in America are around Washington DC should make every American sick.

I doubt it will matter. They’re finding out quickly how much execution and planning works.

They can fire probationary employees...which is what this is.

Then there will be lawsuits to figure out if proper procedure was followed.

These firings are different than the DRP program judge ruled in yesterday

Reagan had legal grounds to fire the air traffic controllers: they engaged in an unauthorized strike (which is absolutely forbidden by Federal employees, union or not).

Illegally, but certainly possible with the filth and how they’ve tried to make the judiciary somehow in charge of the executive branch.

8 months of leave for a probationary employee is pretty unheard of in private industry and hard to argue that it wasn’t fair to all of them, regardless of tenure.

The Office of Personnel Management is advising all federal agencies to fire their probationary employees after it stopped accepting new offers for its “deferred resignation” program last night. Agencies, however, have final authority over the removal of their probationary employees. A source familiar with OPM’s decision-making process told Federal News Network that OPM met with agencies and provided them with guidance to lay off probationary employees, with “case by case exceptions.”

quote:

The source described OPM’s communication to agencies as “soft guidance,” and that “agencies independently can decide how to move forward.” An OPM spokesperson told Federal News Network that “the probationary period is a continuation of the job application process, not an entitlement for permanent employment.” “Agencies are taking independent action in light of the recent hiring freeze and in support of the president’s broader efforts to restructure and streamline the federal government to better serve the American people at the highest possible standard,” the spokesperson said.

quote:

Probationary periods for federal employees typically last for one year. In less common circumstances, certain agencies and federal positions require two-year, or even three-year, probationary periods. Generally, the longer probations are reserved for law enforcement officers and certain employees at the Defense Department. While the federal government has not yet published data beyond March 2024, historical trends suggest there are approximately 200,000 people in government positions with one year or less of service at any given time. The latest OPM data shows 216,079 federal employees had one year of service or less, as of March 2024. The five-year average across the government is 192,774 employees with a year of service or less.

quote:

OPM asked agencies earlier this month to send a list of probationary employees, and whether or not they wanted to keep them. Agencies were given a 200-character limit to explain why a probationary employee should stay in government.

quote:

OPM told federal employees in an email Wednesday night that its deferred resignation program has closed, and that any resignations received after 7:20 p.m. Eastern on Feb. 12 will not be accepted.

Sounds like a stepped process.
1) hiring freeze
2) Voluntary removal.
3) Unprotected (probation removal)
4) 45 day grace period for RTO next step removal?
5) final step Executive branch streamline lay-offs?

LOL... the day after the end of the offer given to keep your pay for several months.

Remember some of those here who said - wait until a better offer comes? H'mmm.

ABCnews.com (you proabably paid for this reporting through AID, might as well clickit)

A day after the Trump administration ended its deferred resignation offer to the nation's two million federal government employees, the administration on Thursday began mass layoffs across multiple federal agencies in a move that is expected to impact thousands of employees, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.

The layoffs, part of Trump's campaign pledge to slash the federal government, initially impacted probationary employees -- recent hires who joined the federal workforce within the last one to two years, depending on the agency, and have fewer protections.

Based on the most recent data available, as of March 2024, there were approximately 150,000 federal workers -- excluding Defense Department employees -- with one year of service or less.
