What this article fails to mention are those scientists who are skeptical due to the fact that these researchers have not shared their data nor authored a peer reviewed article. As of right now this is simply "science by media."
And given that Columbus had MANY enemies, had he been Jewish this would have been found out and exploited.

There was another study of his letters that suggested he spoke Catalonian Spanish. None of his writings, even to family was in Italian. He was probably from one of the merchant families from Barcelona.

Sephardic Jews migrating to Italy and converting to Catholicism (even changing surnames) was somewhat common during the Spanish Inquisition and years leading up to it. My family lineage is similar. Grandparents are from Italy, but the DNA shows Sephardic Jew, and I believe I've traced the family name to the original Jewish name - they are phonetically similar.
