Versus just letting anybody for whatever reason use “Super Bowl” is just flat dumb.

I understand the technical legalities, Nancy.
I’m just saying their militant adherence to it has become stupid, in a really goofy manner.

I've heard more people saying Superbowl this year than the past few years.

I’ve never understood how it hurts them to let businesses say Super Bowl in their ads/promotions.

The NFL can also frick off with making people not call the new 2-minute timeout in college football the "2 minute warning".
Or maybe that's an NCAA mandate. frick them too

Do you? If you did then you'd understand it's not really their fault.
In trademark law if you do not protect your trademark, and others begin to use it, then you can outright lose the trademark.
Since they do not want to lose a valuable trademark, they defend it.
It's like if you owned a large plot of unused land and someone squatted on it, you'd be wise to get them off immediately and not wait until you need to use the land, because they can make an argument it's theirs.

What’s wrong with calling it the Super Bowl? That’s what the damn game is called. I don’t get it

Why are we still allowed to say World Series, Final Four, Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, etc? Are those not trademarked?

ETA: My bad. Not FF, "March Madness" is
NCAA has sued people over it

It is simple, they make money from collaborations with certain entities for the use of the name. If they let anyone use it for free that revenue goes away.

I wonder...what if someone made a product called the Soup-er Bowl
And it was just a soup bowl
But the company licensed companies to refer to their Soup-er Bowl for a small fee...
Maybe have a Bowl in their commercial.
"Are you ready for the Soup-er Bowl?"
How would that shake out?
