Children's Hospital New Orleans will be renamed Manning Family Children's, marking the first time in its 70-year history it has taken on a patron's name, officials announced Wednesday. The change comes with a "transformational gift" from the Manning family — Archie, Olivia, Cooper, Peyton, and Eli — though the exact amount remains confidential.

The move cements the hospital's relationship with one of New Orleans' most famous football families. The Mannings bring star power to the hospital's push to expand pediatric health in Louisiana, where outcomes rank among the worst in the country. With competition in children's health care growing statewide, hospital leaders hope the Manning name will help raise its national profile and keep more young patients in Louisiana for specialized care, said CEO Lucio Fragoso.

It amazes me some of the blowback the Mannings get in Louisiana. They run their lives in a manner that's basically above reproach. Yet they get hate from knuckle draggers because they didn't go to LSU.

I'm not huge fans of the Mannings, but Peyton and Eli have grown on me since they retired. And in all seriousness, it's awesome that they did this for that place. Good for them (and all involved).

Our Mardi Gras krewe pays a visit there every year, it is a very moving experience.

I kind of get tired of the schmaltzy Manning brothers "competition" every time you turn on something sports related but they do seem to do a lot of philanthropic good deeds, kudos to them

Can you imagine working there as a doctor or a nurse?

Having to interact with scared, hurt children? And parents who basically cannot even function thinking about what might happen to their child.

I cannot even. The staff at children's hospitals are literally angels come to earth.

I wonder if long term studies have been done on their mental health? It must be like serving in a combat zone for 30 years or something. Couldn't be good for you.

Name a real legitimate reason why? Please name something other than you're a hater because they didn't go to LSU or play for the Saints. I BEG you...provide any reasonable justification...

Same here. The Manning's are good people from all accounts.

Pretty sure he was referring to their overexposure...

They are on TV. A. Lot.

That said, they're very generous and were clearly raised right.

I never did get the Manning hate from some people. They are as good, kind, and humble of a family as you’ll ever find. I remember the days of playing tournaments at Carrollton playground and Archie signing autographs for hours on end. Years later, while eating at Manning’s, my mom jokingly asked the waiter if Archie is ever at the restaurant. A few minutes later, he came out to our table and the next thing I knew they were showing each other pics of their grandkids.

I like Archie because he was a Saint. What loyalty should I have to Peyton or Eli? As you said, neither went to LSU so I wouldn't be a fan of either of them. And Eli was a direct rival to LSU when I was in college. So I didn't like him.

Neither went to pro franchises that I pull for, so again what allegiance should I carry for either of them? So I've just never liked either one of them really. And their schtick got old for a while.

Now that they've retired and chilled out a good bit, I still don't particularly like either of them in terms of being a "fan" or whatever. But I find them much more palatable than I used to.

I'm not sure why that's so difficult for you to understand. Should I apologize for not liking the Mannings or something?

Man, you’d be surprised to know there are an almost equal amount of parents who function just fine. Some insane social cases that roll through those doors.

Y'all can thank me.

One day on Buddy D's show, Buddy was going on about how great the Mannings were for Louisiana after Archie called in. I called Buddy and said they hadn't done much for Louisiana (at that time) and it's shameful that none of them went to any Louisiana school. Yes, I was halfway being bitter and halfway trolling.

Buddy then loses his mind and can't get any words out he was so flustered. Eventually he says "I can't call you a squirrel, you are worse than a squirrel." haha

So anyways, I guilted the Mannings, and here we are.
