I talked with my mortgage company yesterday about doing a home equity loan to do some remodeling work. We started the process and what not and and ran the numbers to see what it looks like. Didn't plan on pulling the trigger on it just yet as we are still gathering info on what we want to do and the costs.

Since I had the call with my mortgage company, I have been hounded with calls from every mortgage company on the planet. I got 12 calls yesterday starting about an hour after talking with my mortgage company. They stopped at 5.
First call came in at 8:04 AM this morning. I've had 19 fricking calls in the last hour and 25 minutes. Some are polite about ending the call while others are aggressive jackasses. And there's caller number 20 as I"m typing this. all of the numbers are local 985, 225, 318, 337, 504, although i'm pretty sure none of them are local.

It's bullshite that these companies are able to see that I looked into this with my mortgage company. Why is there not a way to opt out of this? My number is on the DNC list, although I doubt that does anything.

Any suggestions on how to make these calls stop?

Sorry. I thought we had excellent rapport, especially when I mentioned how much I appreciated that you took my call and you mentioned how fair the weather was.

Post your number here and we’ll handle it from there.

On iOS, Apps->Phone->Silence Unknown Callers.

I'm not positive how the other lenders are seeing what I assume is a soft pull of your credit, but you can also lock all three bureaus and put a fraud alert on all of them. That's essentially been my setup for 15 years, and all I get is mail, I do not get marketing calls for mortgages, etc.

DNC list does nothing.

I've done the silence unknown callers list before, but I use my phone for business as well so i get unknown numbers regularly.

They'll eventually stop after you tell them "no" enough times. Next time, before calling any insurance/salesman/lender, take a few minutes to sign up for a free google voice number. Then you can just turn it off when you don't want any calls.

I tell them I have no idea what a mortgage is esp since I have no desire to buy things I can’t afford.

…there’s usually crickets.

It's because you googled mortgage or was talking about it near your phone.

The other day I was just talking to someone about a random subject, five minutes later I open google and it suggest an article about the subject we were discussing.

It's too late now, but at some point go back through the privacy preferences you selected with your vendor. You may have given them permission to share your information with third parties. It doesn't make sense to the layman why they would want to share info with competitors, but they think they're sharing it with the company that does risk scoring for them, not realizing that the risk scoring company probably shares information from all their subscribers TO all of their subscribers that pay for the service.

My parents have been getting harassed by medicare scammers for the last year - up to 30 phone calls per day. Its ridiculous how these people are allowed to harass seniors like this.

No. I reached out to my mortgage company about a home equity loan and they did a soft pull on my credit, and for some reason every mortgage company on the planet can see this and somehow has my contact info and immediately started calling me about the inquiry. Now i'm getting emails as well.
Every call starts off with "i can see in my mortgage portal that you recently looked into a home equity loan. What are you trying to do with your home?" This is followed up with me saying "I don't know why or how you can see that, but you're the nth caller this morning about this so go frick yourself and stop calling me"

Just fyi, check with Frost Bank. They have the hel product (not line of credit) at close to 5% right now. I'm doing the same and close tomorrow.

Everyone offers the heloc, but the loan was a little harder to find at a decent rate.

When your lender did a soft pull they had your phone number in the file which can be seen by all kinds of mortgage companies. Tell your lender the next time he pulls your scores to take your phone number off your application so it won't show up and you won't receive all those calls. He can add your phone number back in your file/application after they pull credit and can proceed with your loan application.

Stop doing this.

Go get a prepaid cell phone for business if you're tight on funds.

I had to set my phone to block all calls except for contacts the last time I did that. Took a few weeks for the calls to stop.

Well enjoy the calls then.

You have your answer.

Route business calls to a business phone. Silence unknown callers on your personal phone.

Everyone deals with this stuff.

Don’t answer your phone from numbers you don’t recognize or have as saved contacts.
