Im trading in my 2014 Dodge Ram Ecodeisel.
What do you guys suggest I should get?
I had a few problems with carbon buildup because of epa regulations, but I'm still drawn a little to the Chevy 1500 Duramax.

Still, leaning towards gassers.
So, I'm looking at:
Ram 1500 Laramie with the new hurricane sst
Tundra, they've had problem with the new engine, but the new design is sexy
Chevy 1500 duramax
Chevy 1500 gasser
Ford f150, ecodrive. Ford is PROUD of this truck. $15-20,000 more than dodge or Chevy right now.

Any advice on these trucks?
Engine problems? Durability?
Any mechanics, please educate me.

Thanks in advance!!!

Drive them all, compare what you get for the money, pick the one that comes out on top. Just hope you get a good one out of the batch, quality is hit or miss with ALL of them.

Toyota has addressed the issue with the engines, but it's is not the 5.7.

I've not had any issues with mine yet but I'm getting a new engine in it for free at some point.

I read an article y-day that GMs has been seeing some issues with their 6.2 liter. The engines were blowing up. I have not heard this and have not seen anything else on it so, I don't know if it's true or not.

Just do your research.

I don't think there is a truck made right now that has had the quality of some of the trucks made 10 yrs ago.

I am in the same boat, currently looking hard.

My 2015 F150 Lariat Fx4 is worrying me lately. It's been a damn fine truck with 234K on it now.

I am wanting the same truck, but in their new Avalanche color. Dodge and GMCs are running much better deals right now.

I have not looked at the new Tundras yet.

Yep, Tundra gets all kinds of respect and reverence, but I've found they have their problems too. maybe not as many as the others, but they aren't near as solid as they used to be. Sucks.

There is a balance and there is no way around it. Previous gen Tundra's were the goat in reliability, but trailed the big 3 by a long shot imo. Piss poor mpg, stuck with the c channel frame so long, N/A V8, lack of refinement on the interior, less features and creature comforts than the others. Just a more basic truck, and what does that equate to? Reliability.

No way around when everything is being driven through computers, sensors everywhere, smaller engines squeezing out more power, more electrical load on batteries like power steps, onboard generators, 120v outlets, sound systems etc., there will be more issues. Not shocked that Toyota has had issues, they finally came out of the stone age.

A Naturally Aspirated, non-boosted engine offers less points of failure and lower long-term maintenance. The Ford F-150 5.0L Lariat with the Max Trailer Tow package includes a larger fuel tank + 3.73 gear ratio. Also, consider the 502A package as well.

Purchase used with low mileage, let some else take the initial hit.

I just bought a GMC Canyon AT4. Love it so far. Decided to go mid-size

I've been looking as well and I keep going in circles. I had a tundra that I sold with 280k miles, never the first issue. The plan was to get a new one but with the issues I started looking at GMC at4 and even RAM Rebel even though I've never looked at RAM at all. Now I've circled back to Toyota I think.

My biggest issue is Tundra and GMC just updated their interiors the last couple of years. The RAM I can get a 2021 or even a 2020 and the interior looks decent - GMC and Toyota I have to get a 2023 (Toyota 2022) so for any package I want is still 50k+. 2020-2022 GMC info screens look tiny - and the shifter isn't in the center console. Which I might could get used to but Tundra has been in the console so that's what I'm used to.

That said, GMC AT4 exterior is probably my favorite.

Love my 23 hybrid. Motor is a beast. The hybrid's avoided the engine issues but Toyota did the right thing with the issues that came up and are replacing them even if you had a problem. If you're buying new, it shouldn't be something you have to worry about because I don't think the 24's have had the failures. I personally thought the price bump from the hybrid to non hybrid was worth it given the power, torque, towing boost it gave.

I had narrowed it down to my Tundra and the Chevy ZR2 and went with the Tundra. My FIL is a master mechanic and owns a pretty good size shop and he said 100% go with the Toyota over the Chevy when I was trying to decide. I prefer it over the Ford ecoboost I came from as well fwiw.

Put a 3/1 kit on it with some 35's and it is looking sexy

This is the type of stuff I don't know. Very insightful.
I'll look for a low mileage Ford F150. I will compare it to the others Im testing tomorrow.
I found a 2025 Chevy Trail Boss Duramax for $51,000.
And a Dodge Ram Laramie for $54,000

I'm hoping my ecodeisel will get a fair price on trade in.

I'm also looking at a 2024 Tundra with 12,000 miles on it. It is their premier package. Insane lift and tires. It is gnarly looking. $55,000.
To be honest though.....it doesn't have the boost I feel in the 2025 Ram.

My mechanic buddy said to stay away from diesel.
But, I'm having a hard time not going to test drive the Chevy Duramax.

As I have heard that repairs are just so much higher than gassers.
And the EPA regulations basically force the carbon buildup.
I'm not in a county where I can get away with deleting it and retuning.

Your thoughts on diesels???

TRD Off Road Limited. Went with that because it had the nice interior and tech similar to the Platinum and the oof road feel of the Pro. Kind of thought it was the best of both worlds. It was the best bang for your buck package imo.

Stay away from the gm 6.2, they’re having a lot of problems.

No way I’d buy a ford if it was 15k more.

This is coming from someone who has driven Fords since 2017.

I agree. As a guy with a 22 F150, they aren’t worth the premium price tag they fetch imo. I just like the body styling the best currently, but the interior is a step below what Chevy has to offer with their new interior design.
