It appears the Library is reducing their millage slightly. That is good, but is it good enough?
We are being taxed in all directions and there has been talk of a tax/fee for stormwater, the River Center, new prisons, and the District Attorney. The mayor wants to pay the cops more and hire more cops.
I’m glad the library people want to help us out, but can they do more? Do we need these new libraries. Are the libraries over staffed? I’d rather a shortage of librarians than a shortage of cops.
The Metro-Council is supposed to weigh in on this Wednesday of next week. BRBR

In my opinion literacy should be a top priority as everything flows from there. I would bet anything that higher literacy rates lead to less crime. Build libraries, not prisons, although I do think police could get more. Also, I would rather have the millage voted in for BREC last cycle to go to the libraries instead. BREC didn't need it. Too late now...
And as far as the River Center, what is its future when/if LSU builds a new arena forcing the River Center to take second fiddle? Do we need to invest more into it? How about Todd Graves just pony up a little more?
There's no way around the stormwater issue, I believe there's a consent decree behind it.

Let Elon look at their books and then they can keep the rate the same if he says it's ok.

I live on a city that is literally letting it's libraries crumble into oblivion. I'd gladly pay just to keep them up

you must live in St George

I’m voting NO on all tax renewals and new taxes.
Defund the COA, BREC and the library first.

When do I get to opt out of this shite as a St. George resident?
Only 2 of the 13 libraries are in St. George. How about you just let us govern our own 2 libraries.
Next should be the St. George Parks and Recreation Department, taking properties from BREC and actually managing them correctly.

Every school has a library.
Every kid goes to school.
Why am i paying for adults to go to the libarary and read books on my dime? Go buy the book with your own money.

There has been talk of Central trying to do this, I doubt BREC let’s it happen

It shoudln't be up to BREC.
It should be up to the citizens that pay for it. Let us vote on it.
Zachary has it's own Parks and Rec Department, although BREC still has parks that it manages in the area.
Central should have their own and so should St. George.

Because you would benefit from a literate population. The more educated a society, the less crime there is. The less crime there is, the less incarceration there is. The less incarceration there is, the less tax money needs to go to the criminal justice system. The less tax money going to the justice system, the less tax they need to collect. The less tax they need to collect, the more money stays in your pocket.
I'm sorry you don't understand how society works, and that your are, in fact, in a society. It's not all about you.

Jones Creek Library is in SG.
Is Bluebonnet Library?
I’m trying to think of the second one.

Again, every school has a library, and every kid goes to school.
Literacy is learned in school, not in a public library when you're over 18.
It's not 1975 anymore. Kids don't go to the public library to do research for a school project.
Explain to me why a school age child needs a public library?

I understand your points, but literacy doesn’t happen because you have good libraries. It happens because you have good dchooks with good parents.
I’m for good libraries, but I believe ours are over the top. You don’t need one on every corner. You don’t need such a large bureaucracy either. I think the library system could cut back 20% of so anc still be a good system.

Sure. This works great on the Sims. or if you're in some magical city with no crime or ghettos. But here in the real world, Biden should have built a Utopia with this rationale, right?
Build the prisons first. Libraries can be next..
