MS deer hunters, how was your season?

I’ll start this thread off by saying that this season was an absolute dumpster fire. Hardly saw any deer. Too much pressure on them where I’m at. Looking to hunt locally in LA for next season.
If it weren’t for family giving me meat, I’d be running up a check at Walmart on ground meat.
Hope yall had a good season.
Countdown for next season begins now!
Until then it’s time to wet some lines

Where you hunt?
We saw lots of deer and killed 8-9
Wish we would have killed 12
No good bucks. In fact, we had a little button buck and a seven point that was my old man just killing anything he saw. Kinda mad about it but whatever.
632 acres so we are trying to kill 12.
9 is pretty good.
The bigger bucks (3.5) haven’t made it back on camera since they started rutting. I had three that would be shooters next year. We will see if they lived.

Pretty easy to judge your herd these days with multiple strategically placed cell cams....had a good season of sightings and passes, but did not see the 2 target bucks we had on camera
The herd was healthy, and saw very few spikes, lowest amount ever actually.
Big does with yearlings, and lots of middle aged 8s....
My disappointment falls with the turkeys....they are going away! Which is areal bummer....
Woodville, MS area.

Have 284 acres in SE Claiborne Co. MS. I had 1 good buck (10 pt) that I passed 3 times the first and 2nd week of January. Will be a stud next year but I have no pics of him since 1/15. Still have a young 9 pt, 3-4 8’s a big 7 pt and a big 6 pt that made it through. Killed 3 does but probably needed to kill 8-10. I definitely have too many deer. Let the habitat improvement begin.

I hardly ever see them on camera for months and then I’ll see them every day for a week. Then gone lol

You know you’ve got too many deer when your food plots never get up higher than 6” and you’ve got more than 10 acres of food plots.
Excluders show 2ft growth
And on cue, one of my three shooters just flashed on camera!

Killed two 7pts and a 9pt.
Saw a 10 and 12 in the same plot at the same time on evening hunt after killing the 9 that morning (3rd buck of the season)
Record year.

Wasn’t great. Has been better. Lot of stuff going on in the local area that seemed to have contributed. I’m also endeavoring to put some more work in this offseason and keep feeders going once turkey season is over. Need to put another stand or two out, shape up a few trails for alternative routes in.
Moving on to turkey season. 5 weeks to youth opener.

2nd worst season so far on this property. Tons of yotes this year and a dog problem.

I agree with you on the turkeys going away. I hunt just NE of Woodville and the drop in turkey sightings this year has been pretty drastic. I don't hunt them, but used to see them damn near every deer hunt. This year it was rare to even get them on game camera.

Saw plenty deer. Killed 2 does and an 8 point. Also killed 3 hogs. Woodville. Had several target bucks that were never seen in daylight. My buddy killed a good 8 too. Got a few culls on camera that I wish we had gotten

You are much better off in MS than public land in Louisiana.

Our season was interesting. On our property we are in year two of switching from conventional tillage to regenerative and our fields show it they don't look great and not as many deer in them. Couple that with no acorns and illegal to feed in our county and we saw less deer. All that and we still managed two good bucks and some does so we were happy.
On our lease next door deer numbers were up and we were more restrictive on buck killing. The lease took six good bucks and two borderline trophies and we killed close to the number of does we hoped so good there.
Little hammer hunted the whole year solo and learned the hard way many times on what to not do when trying to kill a buck. He was super safe and amazed me at how hard he hunted. I am very satisfied with our season.

Saw a lot when I did hunt, didn't go much this year. Shot most of my does in Louisiana this year.

Had a good year. Saw deer every hunt. Most times between 10-15. Usually does with occasional young buck. Killed a nice 8pt right before christmas. Had 2 more big 10s on camera, prob could have got one if i had grinded it out more this past month. But after i got the 8, i slowed down. Had been grinding it hard all nov/dec. On to turkey season now
