“The Mavericks were motivated to move Doncic because of his constant conditioning concerns, sources told MacMahon. There had been significant frustration within the organization about Doncic's lack of discipline regarding his diet and conditioning, which team sources considered a major factor in his injury issues.

Though Doncic was relatively svelte by his standards when he reported to camp, his weight ballooned to the high 260s early this season, sources said. He sat out five games in late November, when the Mavericks listed him with a sprained right wrist, an extended absence to allow Doncic to focus on his conditioning. He had a similar early-season layoff in the 2022-23 season.

Doncic has been limited to 22 games this season because of a variety of injuries. He has twice strained his left calf since reporting to Dallas before training camp in late September, although the Mavericks reported the fall injury only as a calf contusion, sources said.“

Because he’s a glorified Zion that can’t play defense.

Ok that’s why he was traded (per the Lakers beat writer, mind you).

But why was he traded for damn near nothing, relative to his stature in the league?

Tim MacMahon is the Dallas beat writer. The article says it was according to MacMahon.

Hes a top 3 offensive player in the league. Only 25 years old.

Traded for a 32 year old once great center who has maybe 2 good years left if he can stay on the court...which he won't.

Mavs destroyed themselves to give the Lakers a post LeBron identity.

To be fair he is an “old 25”. Been playing pro basketball for a decade and doesn’t take care of himself. He isn’t a guy who is gonna play for another decade at a high level.

And why do you not make him available to everyone?

Mav's AD was fixated on AD (or Giannis) and thinks they're in win now mode, which is why the trade was suboptimal.

Luka is already constantly injured and he can’t play defense.

He’s probably not going to be playing impactful basketball in 6 years.

Still doesn't explain why they settled on a shite return from the Lakers, of all teams....

Suboptimal. Yeah that’s what we’ll roll with.

That’s Saints - Ricky Williams level of fixation. But why?

Like SFP said, Dallas wanted to upgrade defensively.

Mavs wanted a big man that could defend and pair with Kyrie.

Their roster with a healthy AD and sane Kyrie is pretty good for a few more years.

Some of you guys are dumb dumb

Mavs have a starting lineup of Kyrie, Play, PJ, AD and Gafford.

They're probably going to be one of the best defensive teams and still very good offensively.

This trade automatically makes them win-now and one of the best in the league but somehow because dummies here think AD sucks this is a bad trade for Mavs.
