Scientists have developed a drug that repairs myelin—the protective sheath around nerves—potentially reversing damage from MS, strokes, and brain injuries.

LL-341070 dramatically sped up myelin repair in tests, restoring lost vision and brain function.

Researchers say it could be a game-changer for neurological diseases.

Human trials are still ahead, but experts believe this could be the first real step toward helping the brain heal itself.

That’s great but we rarely hear anything else from drugs like this after they are touted as “game changers” or “massive breakthroughs”.

Believe me, I hope it works out. But I’ll believe it when I see it

You'll probably believe it when you feel it...

A little premature to spike the football when they haven’t even done human trials yet

Let’s give is several years and check back on this one

This'll be fantastic for the rich people who will be able to afford it.

So this, if it works, should work wonders for Guillain-Barre syndrome as well.

Very encouraging breakthrough.

Guy I know recently had both of his legs above the knee amputated due to a strain of staph that completely dissolved the myelin sheathing of his nerves which created so much incessant pain.

He’s an amazing dude with a great attitude considering how different his life is now. Definitely a great day for science

If it’s something you have to take for the rest of your life, perhaps.

Here is the full article on the drug. The current studies have been focussed on the vision portions of the brain.

The researchers plan to test the drug in other areas of the brain and refine the treatment, hoping to make it even more effective and eventually accessible to patients.

These articles start out as some paper from the manufacturer, then they hand that paper to a person with MD by their name to take credit as the author and put it in medical journals. Then they hand that off to the lobbyists to seek federal funding for their research. The money goes out of our wallet and to the research, then some FDA employee who once worked for pharma or will in the future sends the tests back for more tests that require more funding. This goes on for about 10 years and everybody in the process gets paid. We may or may not get a viable drug, but that doesn't matter because everybody got paid and no one cares about the tax payer.
