It'd be interesting to see how that played out.

Legally they can only drug test new hires, folks in safety positions, folks that are assigned weapons security clearances, etc.

Others include folks suspected of drug use.

They could probably wipe out DC

I used to work for a small consulting firm of 20 people doing dept of energy work. I was one of 3 that could pass the quarterly "random" drug test requirement. This was 25 years ago, so it does appear that drug tests might have become passe

Depends what your clearance/sensitivity level is.

Folks that are non-sensitive don't get drug tested at the start nor randomly unless suspected

Makes sense. Everything really cranked up when I entered the SCI/SAR world.

I’m a federal employee,

Mandatory physical, eye exam, hearing yearly. Random drug tests.

When I was hired it involved a physical, psych examination and extensive background check.

Nothing new for me.

This will definitely trim the federal workforce.

Another stupid move. Does anyone think Elon can pass a drug test? All this is doing is generating ill will and more Dem votes in the midterms. The Executive has powers available to curtail the workforce. Those powers do not mandate retirement. Offer these people instant retirement. Win win. Take away the Dems' ability to campaign on this issue.

Also, we could do the math on false positives here as well. This is a tactic the military uses when they want to downsize. Invent misconduct issues and ram people through the admin system to get people out without having to give them separation pay, or their GI Bill, etc.

Everyone knows that federal expenditures must be trimmed. Doing it in a way that increases Dem turnout in the midterms and in 2028 is self-defeating.

ATC gets drug tested / breathalyzer at random. Psych evaluation to be hired. Yearly physical exam.

ETA: the post office would be a ghost town with drug testing

They will cry, they think are above the law.
The DOD doesn't have a problem with it, maybe because they actually serve a function.

I had to go thru an extensive process. Drug test 1st, background, criminal, psych, etc. Then before I got my badge, & ID, another drug test. Process begin in March, started work in May of that same year.

I was contracted, in & out a secure facility. I was also tested randomly at least 2, maybe 3 other times.

I'm assuming non-secure gov't employees are not tested?

Edited to say, I had ZERO problems with this.

Yeah it's pretty much confined to higher than nonsensitive security clearance positions, folks who operate heavy machinery, carry weapons, etc.

This is a waste of money for most fed jobs. Just fire any lazy druggies and save the money on the tests.
