Many of us take constant shots at McM, but if he can't find a way to beat mid Longhorns...

On Saturday, that should start the gears in motion, correct?

That would put them at 1-7, with no likelihood to beat the 9-9 record of last season at that point.

Still have UF, TENN, UK and aTm again at that point

If you think 9 SEC wins is even in play, you’ve been smoking crack.

It sucks how this is the toughest SEC ever and we are bottom dwellers.

We're going to win maybe 2-4 SEC games this season, everyone knows it at this point. McMahon will not be fired

I'm not sure 5 wins would qualify as likely at this point. 9 is not possible with this team.

Agree thunderbird. Whether you or I or anyone thinks he should or should not be I think the reality is he will not. I have no source, but what indication does anyone have otherwise?

We'll finished between 2-16 and 4-14 in the SEC.

LSU is currently an underdog at home, and my gut feeling is the Tigers lose to the Horns by a bigger margin than they lost to Bama or Auburn.

The MBB program, folks, is clearly dysfunctional.

From what you’ve seen what leads you to believe we will beat them.

This would really be an amazing and fun season to watch if LSU was good. Instead it's an embarrassment.

Never say never. If he’s retained we will be having this same discussion next year .

Yes, it completely sucks that the SEC is likely going to send 13 teams to the NCAAT and we're not going to be one of them. Very depressing as a fan.

In a normal year, the last place team would have a NET well below 100, and that does suck, but LSU is currently 54th, and South Carolina is the cellar dweller at 77th, which is not horrible. Even with our horrible record, LSU has a chance to get into the top 50 in NET and get an at large. LSU moved UP 1 spot after losing to Auburn, so even losing is not treated as awful. It’s about competing and squeezing out a few wins. They won’t get many, but if they compete well, they have a chance to get in the tournament and then anything can happen.

Yes he needs to win this game if nothing else to stop the bleeding. But to act like they can't beat TX is ridiculous also. LSU has to play almost perfect bball to beat the elite teams in the SEC. They competed on the road with TAM and Bama and probably should have won one if not both. So they are capable but they have yet to put 2 good halves together, Only 5 TO in second half against Auburn. If they play the first half like that who knows. Next few games are winnable especially the home games. We'll see but he will be back next year and should get Reed back and if he can keep most of this core group together, sign his 2026 class and find an SEC starting PG then he will need to produce next year or it will be his last.

People don't like when anyone tries to speak positively in any way about MBB.

I think some of these posters are posting from mental institutions. They really can't be that out of touch with reality.

That post was followed up by McPuff saying we should have beaten @TAMU or @BAMA or both. We lost by 11 and 7 points. We had no chance in the waning moments to win either.

Woodward is not going to discuss a coach's status and the media, who I'm not even sure knows the basketball schedule, isn't going to ask him about it. I've never thought the threshold of "success" necessary to retain him was particularly high, but if LSU finishes 2-16, 3-15, 4-14 that's going to give him an overall record slightly below or above .500 this year. His three year LSU career overall record will be below .500 and the conference record would be around .300. Year 1 the AD could overlook. Year two the overall record wasn't great, but there were signs of life in conference. If this year turns out as bad as it is looking that its going to be another year of no real progress to anything substantial while non-traditional "basketball" schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee are dominating the league. And by that point every other new coach that has come into the league will have had significant success except McMahon/LSU. Particularly if Georgia and Vanderbilt can find their way into the NCAAT.

At some point the futility stacks up and is too hard to ignore. If the donors don't see much hope and the fans don't see much hope Woodward may be forced to look at things and say "I promised at least 4 years, but I never thought it would be this bad". Remember, he was an LSU student in the halcyon days of LSU basketball. He's seen a raucous PMAC. He sees it now with gym and women's basketball. He knows the fans will support a great men's basketball team with such fervor if they are winning.

Woodward takes a lot of grief, and I get it. But he's never seem to be a guy who willing to just accept mediocrity for too long. And he's never seemed to be a guy hesitant to try to land a winning HC. He dumped O only 1.5 years removed from the greatest football season in LSU history. He dumped Mainieri despite the fact he was still winning (though not at the extremely high level LSU fans want). All of his major hires except McMahon have been very high profile, and expensive hires. He didn't just decide he wants to take a different path in MBB. The circumstance of the job opening and market profile of MBB just didn't lend themselves to a big hire at the time. But that doesn't mean he is ok with LSU basketball losing...a lot.

LOL. Both the TAM and Bama games were winnable. Geeze it's not that complicated. They didn't finish the deal. They were competitive games until the last 5 minutes and I believe Reed could have made a big difference in both games including Vandy and Auburn which was a 6 point game with 7 minutes left. If LSU can put 2 halves together yes they have a shot at winning more games. TX ain't Auburn or Bama and it's at home so of course they have a shot at beating them.
