What is so great about King Cake?

I've had it all my life, and yeah it's decent, but Jesus Christ, the marketing for these things is insane.
It's like an okay cake. Even the best ones. I'd rather have a chocolate chip cookie.

Plain/traditional king cakes are the most overrated dessert on the planet. Filled king cakes on the other hand, can be quite tasty

It's the risk of getting the baby vs the reward of free cake. It wouldn't surprise me to find out Caesars is the silent backer of Big Cake.

They taste good but since the evolution of social media, i feel like king cake and crawfish have become this weird obcession type food that for some odd reason people want to let everyone know they are not only excited about them but are having it.

Agreed. It's just dry sugarbread without fillings.
Now fillings can take it next level. There's the fruit/cream cheese combo
The Bavarian cream. Chocolate pudding
Someone should make some pistachio cream and do one. Or cannoli filling.
And that's not even getting started on savory fillings
I did one one year that was Langostino lobsters, different cheeses, green onions and garlic.
Turned out great
