I guess my state, Florida, couldn't handle the winning.

If this is accurate, there better be some bloodletting next elections. My state is supposed to be solid red Trump/DeSantis country. WTF are the GOP legislators thinking? Now, of all times, to be getting squishy on immigration?

Sugarcane, citrus and tourism lobbies are very strong in Florida. They need the cheap labor.

Sugar is mostly mechanized now. And the cane cutters from back when I was a kid were Jamaican, anyway.

Pushback from the real estate complex.

If renters are kicked out by the busload, their returns will fall.

This is why states like Louisiana with relatively low illegals per capita will probably be able to kick ours out faster.

Ironically states with sluggish economies will fare better in this regard since most post 1980s economic growth was just inflation fueled by mass migration; it wasn’t real.

You are right. It's probably the tourism industry screaming the loudest about U.S. immigration enforcement.

I’m going to guess that the Florida GOP is doing this to bow down to farmers in the state.

I'm checking with my cousin who does all of our interaction with our sugar co-op. I know the rep who proposed this (McClure) is from Plant City so it may be pushed by ag interests.

Not anymore and Disney needs Florida more than Florida needs Disney. FAFO when they challenged Desantis with the Don't tell BS. Florida is a top destination for tourists and now for real estate and Disney can choose to stay or go. They made their choice to stay and not challenge the governor anymore.

The Florida Senate

Why don't you just peruse the actual bill and amendments instead of reacting to what some guy posts on X.
