Could it be that the Chinese made it open source simply for this reason?

as markets react to DeepSeek release.

Isn't that a XXX movie?

Basically the Chinese made a more efficient ChatGPT at a 99% discount

I made a thread on the money board with a few articles
DeepSeek is opensource AI built by 200 people for $6 million and has a chance to disrupt the AI bubble where the US is investing trillions in chips, data centers, and development.
It was built in just a few months and just released

it would be pretty funny to see AI tank after watching Fox Biz and others stroke them off for so long.

Can I blame Sam Altman for this somehow?

Is it contagious? Should I get my mask back on?

I want to see Sam Altman crash
He has been anti Trump for years until last week when he kissed Trump's arse but more than that is that he lied. He raised $50 million from Elon and promised ChatGPT would be open source and nonprofit but he changed to a for-profit model and got greedy. He never paid Elon back and never even gave Elon a board seat when they changed paths.

I'm so old I can remember when it was good for the economy when technology breakthroughs helped lower our costs...

Yes, this will be good for the consumers but bad for business. DeepSeek is open source AKA free and it is Chinese owned.
This has the potential to hurt every American AI developer and if the rumors are true that they built this on old hardware it has the potential to hurt Nvidia too.

Yep this kind of breakthrough has the chance to cut into these market caps, in a huge way
Tech sector may get rocked tomorrow

Can the U.S. just block it from being used here?

Don't underestimate the release date of this to undermine Trump's announcement with Ellison and Altman

Tech is cannibalizing Tech. It's moving so fast now that the latest developments are obsolete in weeks.

Sure but it is open source which usually means the engine/code is available online for all to see and add to the development of.
I am not sure if they have their own form of GitHub for Deep Seek because I didn't look into it but if they do then someone could just use that to make an American-based Deep Seek.

it has the potential to hurt Nvidia too.
However, based on my trading history the price of NVDA may double tomorrow...

Stargate on the ropes?
Perhaps
It took everyone by surprise this weekend. No doubt there have been some scrambling and puckered buttholes since it dropped.
