The Pressure on James Franklin

Some fans and media are going to focus on the Jim Knowles switch to Penn State as a L for Ohio State.
IMO, Penn State now has more pressure than ever. The narrative is established that Franklin can't win big games. If they see no immediate progress with a $3 mil DC....what then?
Ryan Day just got that narrative of big game flops off his back. Now it's all on Franklin.

Franklin will have to miss the playoff next year to have any real heat. He’s seat is ice cold right now.
I’d argue there’s a better chance day is gone after 27 than Franklin. Both are safe next year, but if day still can’t beat Michigan that seat heats right back up, especially if Michigan is either really bad or gets further in the playoff than Buck State

Half the battle is getting there, and sometimes you need luck to win the big games. A good coach can get his team to 10-2 and 11-1. One day Franklin can break through because he's coaching in these games and has an opportunity to win one. Just look at Ryan Day; eventually, he'll break through.
Anybody who fires a winning coach who just made the semis/top 4 is a moron. It'll take the new guy likely a few years to even get back there.

Penn st problem isnt really defense tho FWIW

I mean the pressure wasn’t on Franklin because of his defense. It was already elite. He desperately needs to open up the offense and if he can’t hire someone that will.

Sorry I busted up that 55-23 cliffhanger.

The narrative is established because it is true.

Kotelniki was wide open at Kansas. Either they think they don’t have the personnel or Franklin is stifling the philosophy. It’ll be interesting to see what style of qb they recruit going forward. Allar isn’t capable of running a wide open offense and the two backs this year were their two best offensive players.

Franklin's seat isn't as hot as Day's got due to the fact that Penn State is consistently winning 10-11 games per season under him. Penn State's expectations and ceiling are not as high as Ohio State's so most Nittany Lions fans are satisfied with where their program is right now.

The Penn State fan base is split on Franklin. Half want him fired and want Al Golden or Rhule hired just because they are "Joe Pa guys"
Very similar to the Michigan Man mindset

They desperately need wide receivers.
