Two part question for the OB.

1) What is your favorite gun to shoot birds with? Semi, pump, o/u, sxs - whatever it is, name it.

2) If you had to go buy a gun to hunt with what would it be?

Also... has anybody had experience with the new browning a5's? Any reviews?

Looking at A5, A400, SX4, Citori for now. All thoughts and reviews welcome.

I’m on my second a400 after selling my first cause I thought it was too much gun for too much money.

I was wrong, it works perfect for me.

Your mileage may vary

When I wore a younger man’s clothes, it was all about pump action shotguns(Remington 870 Super Magnum) for waterfowl, now its inertia autos(Benelli Super Black Eagle, SBE II, SBE III)

Benelli M2. I had a SBE2 for years that I absolutely loved. Put it through hell back when I duck hunted hard. After about 10 years, it stopped firing. Brought it to my gunsmith and he got it shooting again. Took it on a 5 day hunt and it stopped firing again on the last day.
Bought a SBE3 when my 2 stopped firing the first time. I don’t like it. It shoots different than my 2 did. Never gave me any problems, I just don’t really click with that gun and don’t shoot it well.
Bought an M2 20ga this season. Love it. It shoots great, smooth, no problems whatsoever. If I was to buy a shotgun solely for waterfowl right now, it would be an M2 12ga. I’ll shoot 3” shells all day.

Have an older A-5 magnum 20 that's perfect for everything when you switch chokes and gas rings for various loads. But it's kinda nice and I plan to keep it that way.

Went to a Maxus gen 1 and loved it, after shooting a gas gun I cannot go back to the "pogo stick" action of the older A-5. But it wouldn't cycle 1oz or lighter for doves. That got stolen

Then I got an A400 and it's awesome. It fits me better than the Maxus did. Cycles everything easily. If I drop it in mud or salt marsh, hose it out, dry it, CLP it, and it's good to go.

At the time I bought my Benelli, maybe 2009? It was much lighter than gas guns which was a selling point to me. It still shoots great, BUT I bought an a400 upland a few months ago and it’s just as light and shoots amazingly soft compared to the inertia Benelli.

I have the A400 X+, I absolutely love that thing. Throw in a couple Muller chokes and its the baddest waterfowl killing gun I've owned. The only time I've even come close to a hiccup was a 20 degree day when I had gotten it wet and had literal ice inside, it wouldn't feed the 5th or 6th shell right.

Yes extension tube testing with shells that wouldn't cycle in my buddies Benelli.

For duck hunting, I still use my Dad's old Browning A5 Sweet 16 that he gave me when I turned 12.

Growing up, it was all pump shotguns. First the 870 and then onto the Benelli Nova. I shot so many ducks with that 12 ga. Nova.

After the Nova, I started using a Stoeger M3500 and haven't had a single problem. With the recoil reducer installed, it was too heavy the years I took it pheasant hunting in SD.

Just bought the M3020 20 ga. and shot quail & chucker with it last week. Had no problem shooting 7 1/2, 1250 fps shells. This will be my duck gun next season.

I alternate btwn 2 guns. A Baretta A391 Extrema. I bought it the first year Baretta came out with the Extrema line. It is the predecessor to the current A400 line. Great gun…has never misfired or failed to eject. The second gun is a Beretta 686 Onyx O/U chambered in 3.5. Great goose gun.

Depends on the target birds. O/U for doves, teal season, Semi for ducks, geese. This guy retired the pump 30 years ago.

Stick w the Big "B's" Browning, Beretta, Benelli.

I shoot the Browning Maxus, son shoots the Benelli SBE. Would buy either again today.

I got the beretta A300 12 gauge this year and really like it. Looked at the A400, but didn’t like how raised the vent was

Auto.

It would be a new A5 however I haven't done any research but I think they have had reliability issues?

I am a fairly recent convert from a lifetime of pump to a semi-auto. I am using a Franchi now, and would buy another in a heartbeat.
