Two recent Netflix action/thriller shows are back!

Season 2 of The Night Agent arrives on Thurday, January 23.
Both seasons are 10 episodes.
Starring Gabriel Basso.
Returning cast: Luciane Buchanan (Rose)
New cast: The only name I recognize is Brittany Snow.

The Night Agent Season 2 Trailer:
youtube.com/watch?v=FXflfh5jdIc

Season 1 had a really dumb ending.
Season 2 looks like over-the-top action.

Season 2 of The Recruit arrives on Thurday, January 30.
Season 1 was eight episodes, Season 2 will be just six episodes.
Starring Noah Centineo.
Returning cast: Nathan Fillion, Kaylah Zander (as thirsty Amelia Salazar), Aarti Mann (Violet), etc.
New cast: A bunch, don't really recognize the names.

The Recruit Season 2 Trailer:
youtube.com/watch?v=czt_Mh_qdsw

Season 1 had a great mix of action and humor.
Season 2 looks like more of the same.

I'm doing a rewatch of both shows. I love The Recruit. Salazar is a great side character.

This was pretty much my thought on The Night Agent… was pretty good up until the absolute dumb ending. Didn’t seem like something that called for a second season.

The Night Agent was a raging success for Netflix. They were never going to leave it at one season. In fact, Season 3 has already started production.

The Recruit is head and shoulders above The Night Agent.

I completely forgot about The Recruit. Need to refresh on that one but remember enjoying it.

My wife was giving me shite yesterday when she joined me at episode 5 or 6 of Day of the Jackal and said all my shows are the same. She listed jack ryan, reacher, the bodyguard, night manager, night agent, etc.

I like espionage and tradecraft

I just finished my Season 1 rewatch of The Night Agent. For nine episodes it's a taut thriller, it doesn't get boring. Well written and directed. Then there is the last episode. It's generally of the same quality, except for the ridiculous premise of the final action sequence. Despite remembering some of the answers, the rewatchability was not bad.

Now to finish my rewatch of The Recruit...

I enjoyed the Night Agent. Just a show with some action and mediocre writing that can keep your attention.

I will have to check out the Recruit.

Enjoying it, but talk about mediocre writing.

There are some moments where it is so bad I have almost quit watching.

One prime example is how Peter flatout refused to hide his face while wearing a fricking hoodie, resulting in him getting recognized. It was all forced to advance the plot.

And this is an action taken by someone who is REPEATEDLY described as having counterintelligence training.

It made me irrationally angry.

The writing drops below the CW’s writing at certain times.

There are nonsensical arguments between the main two characters and between the Secret Service agents that are forced and cringe-inducing.

I’m finishing solely so I can see how it ends at this point.

Finished S1 of The Night Agent last night. The chick that played the President's Chief of Staff is one of the worst actors I have seen in a while

I don't remember noticing it in the first season, but in the 1st episode of season 2 of the Night Agent, the main character runs funny. He runs spread legged like he pulled his groin or something.

Really liked Season 1 of Night Agent and was excited for second season..huge disappointment, fast forwarded though most of the last episodes as it felt like a Lifetime Original production

Wife liked season 1, I thought it was OK. Through 2 episodes of season 2 I find myself bitching about crappy writing, things that would make no sense. Like Rose finding him or going after him in the first place. Just dumb. And he is a terrible agent, but maybe that was part of the point.

She was not only a terrible actor, but her character seemed to simultaneously hold the powers of Chief of Staff, Secret Service Director, FBI Director, US Attorney General, as well as a lot of Presidential powers and authority.

Everything about her character was unbelievable, and I tried to ignore her, but she nearly ruined the entire season as her character played a bigger and bigger role as the season progressed.

S2: At least she’s not involved, but everything else is below S1 in terms of quality and writing.

I told my husband the same thing!! Reminds me of how Phoebe ran on Friends, lol. That being said...I binged the whole season. I thought it was better than the first.

Yeah, despite the badly acted Chief of Staff (which takes you out of any immersion in the story), I liked S1 better than S2.

As I mentioned above, S1 was a huge success for Netflix (and S3 has already started production), and it looks like S2 is back on top.

Yeah a lot of the writing is dumb, but it caters to the masses with the intrigue, action, the will they or won't they? tension between the two leads, etc.

Now on to S2 of The Recruit. Halfway through the first episode, it's OK so far...

I'm through the first two episodes of S2 of The Recruit. The situations are probably more ridiculous than The Night Agent, but the big difference is that The Night Agent takes itself so seriously, while The Recruit is a perfect blend of intrigue, action, and humor. It plays serious, but really it's a bit tongue-in-cheek. Owen keeps going to serious places, he introduces himself as an Agency lawyer, and the response is always, "yeah right, a lawyer (wink wink)." The writing and the characters are so much better than The Night Agent.

Just finished both, I do like the Recruit better due to the supporting cast. the end of both were pretty bad though.
