Foreigners can't own stock in Chinese companies as I recall under Chinese law. When you buy a share of a Chinese company, you actually own a shell corporation for that entity.

This is the worst position that Rand has ever taken. Regardless of the ownership aspect, China controls TikTok and gets that data. But also, if China didn't own it, why would Trump just recently say he spoke to Xi about TikTok?

China limits foreign ownership to 49% iirc. ie-They do not allow foreign control.
When you hear about GM/BMW/etc and their China operations those are all joint ventures due to this.
Also "Mr. Wonderful" himself, who is trying to buy it, says Xi has control of it. No question on this.

It is more American owned than anything.
But yes, a corporation exists in China at the whim of the CCP. They aren't a particularly trustworthy country.
