I'm on season 5 now. This show is legitimately funny. I find myself laughing hard at least once every episode.
Annie Potts kills it.
Loved the brisket episode.
Hate Mary. If I was her kid, I would've antagonized the hell out of her knowing how tightly wound she is.
Would love to slap the preacher. He is so lame.
George. Great dad just should stand up to his wife more.
The episode with Lance Riddick was great as well.
Sheldon clearly on the autism spectrum.

Early Young Sheldon much better than later YS

Loved it and by the end I liked it more than BBT.

The phrase "it has heart" was made for this show.

Seen a few here and there. The actors do what they can. I never find much to laugh at when I watch.

Watched the entire series and enjoyed it. I have started watching the spin off, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.

Same here. I was enjoyable... and rewatchable.

Couldn't make it through the second episode.

Didn't like BBT or the character of Sheldon so I wasn't interested in watching the spinoff when it came out. But one day while channel surfing I stopped on an episode of YS and it was funny. I'm now watching the full series on Max. Missy is a hoot. I like all the characters including Mary and the preacher. The show manages to poke fun at religion without being disrespectful, dismissive, or insulting which is quite a feat for Hollywood.

- dad isn't horrible like the big bang makes him to be
- young Sheldon can be highly annoying
- meemaw is the best part of the show
- followed by missy and Georgie
- mom is hard to follow
- George and Brenda/Mary and Rob were cringe
- love all the old coach people showing up
- pastor Jeff is annoying
- the whole coaching debacle was hard to watch
- the two professors are awesome

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Especially the later seasons when it becomes more about the Coopers

I was not a BBT watcher but started watching this on a flight. Great show. I’ve talked it up to several people. Really enjoyed it maybe because it reminded me of a lot of people growing up.

I liked her. She had to be close to how the mom was on BBT (as portrayed by the actress who is her real life mom), but they made her and the other family more likable and didn’t make fun of them as being backwards hicks like they did at times on BBT especially before young Sheldon was starting up. She isn’t nearly as over the top and hardline as her mom played the mom on BBT.
Her and Sheldon had some good moments at least early on. She is protective of Sheldon and fights for him or gets the others to do it which wasn’t always part of the character on BBT. The dad is portrayed as a better dad and husband than initially portrayed during BBT until Young Sheldon started. It worked that BBT Sheldon was clueless to everything they did for him.
It’s funny, and it has some good family moments which I didn’t expect when I first heard about it coming out of BBT. I didn’t watch it until this past summer when I read a discussion here which made me realize it was different than I thought it was going to be.
An underrated reoccurring storyline was Paige. Her being smarter but a normal kid and then teen without the same support Sheldon was getting including keeping him close while going to college would have been interesting to show more than they did.
The single camera format used on show should have been used on georgie and Mandy’s first marriage. Georgie tries to hard to end every comment over the top including his facial expression. In a single camera set up they could cut away and show someone else’s reasction or something else. Mandy and her parents were also better on young Sheldon than on new show.

The initial shows were mostly about Sheldon and to me he was the weak link. I liked the character development later of the other characters. The other kids and grandma were really good.

Probably because they made Sheldon pretty unlikable.
His mother often coddled him when she should have punished him.
He's definitely on the autism spectrum. Although a genius, he is an emotional idiot. That test where he can't guess a single emotion is one they use now for spectrum disorders. What that means is he is going to interpret things differently from a normal person. When his dad doesn't let him have his way, there are usually good reasons for it. However, Sheldon was not emotionally capable of understanding why so he would think his father was being mean.
I can see why they moved on to other characters. Got to keep changing or else the act gets stale and the audience gets bored. Casting did a great job on the show.

Never really got into BBT but thoroughly enjoyed Young Sheldon but the last few seasons seem to be more about everyone else just as much as Sheldon

Forgive me for asking but what is BBT?
My 12 year old niece is obsessed with this show and keeps telling me that I will love it so I might check it out

quote:When I first heard about the show being made I was expecting it to border on insulting or dismissive as BBT could come close when Sheldon’s family involved or talked about. Same thing with people from a small Texas town. I was not interested in watching it for the entire run of the show until I read here how different it was than I expected.

quote:I think any young kid and even the show runner would struggle at first to recreate a younger version of a character like Sheldon especially when it’s a different take on it and using 1 camera set up instead 3 in a studio like BBT. He got better, and then it only seemed off when he finally grew up and voice changed. Not being likable is part of both shows showing that those who do put up with him really care about him even when he annoys the heck out of them and doesn’t realize it or how bad he acted to them.

I don’t feel YS is as rewatchable as BBT.
But YS gets you in the feels. Team George.
