I have a flight scheduled for 7:20am on Tuesday from MSY to LAS and then on to Reno.

If they do shut down, how long could it be for given the forecast?
24hrs? Longer?

You had a flight Tuesday morning . When they post the waiver, leave monday night even if that means a connection

Take the 6pm through Phoenix or the 650pm through Dallas on Monday night

How much de-icing equipment does MSY have? LOL, yes, if the current forecast is correct, they'll shut down at some point Tuesday morning, but your flight might happen before the snow. Like Cuse said, change to an earlier flight.

My guess is one or two trucks worth. This is definitely a storm I'd get out in front of. I'm pretty sure OP is on Southwest and they have a waiver posted already

Hey Cuse, thanks for the response man.

I moved my flight back several days. I’ll need to be here to help family, especially my mom, during the freeze.

Now, I’ll only get 10 days on the slopes.

Find a bridge overpass down here to make do.

Both Houston area airports have shut down and all widebody flights into Austin have already cancelled due to a lack of de-icing equipment. I wouldn't bet on getting out of MSY from midday Tuesday to midday Thursday.

Hey Cuse, always grateful for the insight here…now I’m looking for help too.

Scheduled to fly out of MSY at 6am Thursday to MIA. I know it’s all up in the air depending on if the roads will freeze again Wednesday night.

We’re on AA (not ideal) so what would be your best advice to prepare ahead of time in hopes of getting out of town as soon as we can once things open up?

Is traveling today not an option? American has non-stop options from Memphis on Thursday.

In a perfect world, that would be great but our two young kids are keeping us here til Thursday…good idea though, would have loved to extend the trip to Key West another two days

Where are you driving to MSY from? The thaw and refreeze may cause issues driving to the airport. I'm not sure if they'd have to deice on Thursday morning.

Id expect the flight to get in from Miami on Wednesday night

Driving from the Elmwood area…plan is to take Jefferson Hwy all the way there to avoid bridges which may have ice.

Part of our concern is that the flight somehow won’t be cancelled but it’ll be tough to drive there that early. Lot of uneasiness until we find out how much snow/ice ends up accumulating.

You'll know Wednesday night whether or not you're traveling on Thursday. As Cuse said, flight will arrive Wednesday night. MSY will have the deicing equipment on hand if necessary for an early AM departure.

Flight comes in as AA2355 the night prior.

Appreciate all the insight here everyone

Initial worry was making it for the connection to EYW but at this point we just want to make it out of MSY and we’ll figure out how to get to key west later (could even rent a car if we had to)

If the flight leaves it should be on time. Watch the night before to see if the plane makes it in from Miami.

Scheduled to fly out of MSY on Wednesday morning at 7:10 am.
Have a room booked at Doubletree by airport for Tuesday night just in case and was going to head there tomorrow early to avoid snow/ice conditions as much as possible between NO-BR.
Any thoughts on Wednesday morning flights?

I'm in the same situation, but not MSY, I'm out of IAH. All indications over here are that the airport will be open on Wednesday and flights resuming as normal. But the catch there is you've got to watch your inbound flight.

If the inbound plane comes in the night before (in this case, Tuesday when the airport is closed), then unless they completely switch up the schedule, you won't be leaving on Wednesday morning on time.

As for my flight, the inbound aircraft is coming from Honolulu overnight and landing at IAH at 7:40am. I can monitor that flight on Tuesday night, and if it's coming, I can go to bed the night before expecting my plane to be on schedule too.
