Canoo

quote:

Canoo Inc. (NASDAQ: GOEV) announced its voluntary filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Delaware on January 17, 2025. The company will immediately cease operations, with a court-appointed trustee overseeing asset liquidation and creditor distributions.

Despite successful deliveries to notable clients including NASA, Department of Defense, USPS, State of Oklahoma, and agreements with Walmart, Canoo failed to secure important financial support from the U.S. Department of Energy's Loan Program Office. Recent attempts to obtain foreign capital were also unsuccessful, leading the Board to file for insolvency.

CEO Tony Aquila, one of the company's largest investors, expressed disappointment and gratitude to employees and key customers. The company will work with the Delaware Bankruptcy Trustee during the liquidation process.

Or a toaster.

Can't get investors. Maybe not a good idea to invest in something that loses money (EVs).

Too many companies tried to jump into the EV market. Maybe if some would have combined forces, they would have had more luck. It’s really hard to start up a car company, especially in America. That’s what makes Tesla such a rarity.

Tesla could afford to lose money at the start.

Not an attractive vehicle nor does it look conventional.

I believe folks buy eBeemers, eF150s, and electric GMCs because they still look like their gas/diesel counterparts.

With that, I still can't see how Tesla Cyber Truck still exists.

I guess shuffling kids from practice to practice this may work.

We do this with an ICE but I dunno how much we are losing by not being EV.

Under a NDA but it’ll come out in the next few weeks. Stupid money invested behind these startups. Most of it unsecured. Same with plant-based protein manufacturing.

There is a reason the number of car companies has historically shrunk over the years. The EV market is following the ICE market just in an accelerated fashion like all industries today. There used to be a ton of auto manufacturers, but now there are a handful and if you consider those under an umbrella it is far fewer.

Car companies are hard to build on VC money it is too slow of a process and it is hard to develop market share when the sales are so limited because people don't buy multiples a year which is why the only new ICE companies in recent history are the ones that sold super/hypercars with massive profit on an individual vehicle. Tesla was different being first to the market via a viable commercial product and the funding was different. Tesla is in the enviable position to almost being the Q-tip or Xerox of EVs being a substitute noun for electric vehicle.

Canoo had the best shot at the fleet and delivery market but those tend to be risk averse at least the ones large enough to support an entire brand.

America is going to shite because we have lost sight of what this country was founded on.....life, liberty, the pursuit of justice...........and our eyes on God.

Why do EVs have to look so stupid?

At least the Big 3 are smart enough to make their EVs still look like the gas burner versions (EV Hummer, F150 lightning, etc)
