Chief Diversity Officers

Was researching a company, and on their web page they list their "leadership team". They have their CEO, CFO, COO, President, Marketing executive, etc. Every single individual is a white guy between 40 and 60 years old.
Then the last item is their CDO (Chief Diversity Officer). Some large black woman with braids.
My question is, how is this not shameful? If I was black, I would be embaressed that they create these useless roles. It feels like the CDO is just some pet or mascot to make investors feel good, but serves no functional purpose. I suppose she gets to pick up a check, who knows what day to day role she even plays. They probably send her off to conferences and webinars and as long as she is there in that role, they keep paying her, she can act as a buffer between any Sharpton style shake down artists.
Other question is, since they literally use the word "diverse", why is this role almost always, held by a black person, usually a black female? Shouldn't, by definition, this role occasionally have white males or other demographics?

When companies do this with a token black person, it screams "hey look! I have a black friend!"

Wait until you run into the organizations that have ...
Chief People Officer
Chief Strategy Officer
Yada. Oxygen thieves as far as the eye can see

It’s well known that companies fill roles like this with “diverse” candidates. Let’s them check a box and improve their “score.” And the view of some is that unqualified people can’t do much harm in those roles, although I’m not sure how true that is.

saw an article on LinkedIn recently touting that while many companies are dumping their DEI policies some are doubling down on embracing DEI; they cited Apple, Costco, and Target

True diversity should encompass different genders, races, ages, religions, sexual orientations, schools of thought, etc. That's not the case with the DEI departments at most universities or large companies. It's almost always focused solely on race and equity. Screw the inclusion part. If you're a straight, white male, they don't want to hear what you have to say.

The only white males that can be on a diversity team have to also be a member of the alphabet mafia....LGBTQ+....

You think that lady is embarrassed taking a role that's probably paying her a decent to nice 6 figure job, traveling and perks? You think she cares if we think it's useless?

Doubtful, she obviously has no shame. But I was referring to any rank.and file black employees or just black people in general that are expected to happy because this token job title was carved out for ShaToya.

Disagree with this on a few levels, large organizations have incredibly complex HR structures and needs, quite often they’re driving savings and turning the company into a soulless profit machine that can function at a high level without interruption.
Is HR rife with bloat and bull shite, absolutely. Dumb arse initiatives? Absolutely. But a CPO is a real role. Are some of them full of shite titles of DEI hires doing no talent arse clown things all day? Sure…but there are some that are critical to a business.
For CSO, never heard of it but CPO, Chief Product Officer, is another angle that can be super important, if not one of the most important, roles in a company.

It is shameful but people will do anything for money.
People love money.
Money will not make you happy.

Fact.
If you scratch you nuts in public or spit outside you wont get invited to the diversity team if you are a dude.

More than likely. I worked in Healthcare and it is very white. I did end up working with a couple of black hospital CEO’s late in my career but there weren’t many. I also knew a couple of black CFO’s, but that was rare also.

Then this ...

But a CPO is a real role.
Well run organizations should get their culture AND their strategy from the CEO (and their board, if applicable) ...
Most C-suite roles beyond CFO, COO and CTO are inventions of poorly run organizations to provide cover for not getting the top role (CEO) right ...

You make sure that they can't. No access to company emails, and don't let them near the printer.
Oh, you want to have a group meeting? We will consider it (for a few years).

I guarantee you she does not care. As long as she and those in her circle get their piece of the pie. And if you are the wrong kind of minority you are SOL.
It's a game to them.
