After working from home so much it’s liberating to leave the computer at work now.

Anyone else like not checking the machine first thing in the morning? It’s nice to leave the house and drive to work before being on the clock.

You don't get calls starting at 6:00am?

Must be nice.

Nope. When I don’t have my computer work starts when I get on site. If I have it I check it before coffee.

There are pros and cons working in an office vs working from home.

I work from home and don’t check the computer until I start working between 8 and 9.

We had snow here in Bham on Friday. Everyone took their laptops home and instead of playing with their kids and otherwise fricking off, they worked. It sucked.

They’ve made us perpetual slaves and we think they’ve done us a favor.

Were you getting paid to work that day?

If you did get paid to work that day, what are you bitching for? You're not an elementary school kid, you're an adult with a job.

(Again, assuming you did get paid) Why didn't you just call in sick or take a personal day? Then you could have fricked off. That's what those days are for.

I never checked it bf it was time to sign on and I never check when I’m off. Only if I’m off for a week or so I’ll check to be sure nothing urgent that should be passed along.

If it was a work day, then why would they not actually work?

The problem with letting people work from home is that they frick off more than normal, generally speaking. I know people will chime in and swear they bust their asses at home and blah blah. But for the most part people want to work at home so they can do shite around the house. And while people also frick off in the office, it’s not the same IMO.

I feel the same way. When we worked from home, I would never stop, because it was just too convenient. I would check my phone and see something that I needed to do and go in the bedroom. I would end up working until 9 or 10 at night. Nowadays, I bring my computer home in case of an emergency however, I don’t usually take it out of my vehicle.

I've had phone access to e-mails for over a decade.

So, always been an expecation that I might need to handle things after hours.

So someone does 30 minutes of laundry "on the clock" as opposed to spending 30 minutes in a circle jerk in the office kitchen complaining about Sam from Accounting.

So using downtime during WFH to wash clothes or hit the gym during lunch is different from people playing with their phones, engaging in gossip, and taking a 45 minute dump at the office?

I’ve been working from a home office since June 2023. It started when they closed Corp HQ for renovations and was supposed to last 6 months but ended up being a year and a half. They’re finally finished. I have a meeting on Thursday to look over the floor plans and select my new office. Not really looking forward to it.

This is a healthy way to do it. I worked from since 1995, at least when I wasn't traveling. It took me a long time to learn this lesson.

I just went back. My issue is more having co-workers in the office. After working at home so long, It's hard to get used to the constant interruption and small talk. But I'll get there.

^^^ this. The folks who work hard in the office, work hard at home and the folks who screw off in the office, screw off at home. You can get more work done at home due few interruptions and at home I usually work longer at home.
