Between the regulations, red tape, bureaucracy, insurance, and financial cost it will take 2 years before anything get rebuilt and only the uber-rich will be able to afford it.

They have zoning that require updates so you won't be able to build back what you had.

California Coastal Commission oversees development in California's coastal zone obtaining permits from the CCC can be notoriously slow and bureaucratic, potentially delaying rebuilding by years. Posts on X have highlighted the CCC's involvement as a major obstacle, with some suggesting that it might take residents over two years to secure the necessary permits.

Environmental impact studies will be required along with historic and natural landmarks review before being able to build.

Insurance may be next to non-attainable so either you are rich enough to build without a mortgage and insurance or you are screwed. Contractors will have to comply with minimum wage laws and other labor rules along with high material and fuel costs. It will cost twice as much to build what you had.

While the regulations keep people from building back for years the empty lots will sit. The homeless will move in with their tent cities and claim squatter's rights. Getting rid of them will take more years and thousands in legal fees.

Don't look for that place to come back any time soon.

This is his chance to show some actual leadership and competence. I don't think he's a legit national candidate contender because his policy track record is worse than Harris' and he's as unlikeable as she is. But this is a genuine opportunity for him to step in and show he's not a completely incompetent lunatic progressive. Let's see what he does.

Most of you don’t know the actual facts about California. The problems in this situation are not Democrat or Republican.

Their regulatory environment is going to be their worst enemy going forward. Its a nanny state that cant self manage.

Its the epitome of progressive stupidity, and the middle class exodus is evidence.

I think 2 years is wildly optimistic.

Is it racism? Transphobia? Misogyny?

It’s racism isn’t it?
