About to head out.

Area 2 public (D’Arbonne NWR today)
Mathews V3X
Saddle and platform if I find a good spot
Cold, windy

I’m really just going to check out some spots I scouted over the Summer. I’m hoping at least one of the areas is flooded a bit. If it is, I’ll look for sign, nearby thick stuff, and try my luck.

Should be good this afternoon. The wind is picking up a little bit but not too bad.

I plan to leave my sticks and lock on on this tree and come back here in the morning. Had a nice one sided assumed 8pt pass on this road the other morning.

Great time today. I set up on a stream close to the flooded area I was hoping to see. An hour after being set up (about 2pm) a decent 8-point ran straight through the stream down to the flooded area. There was no stopping him.

There were a couple does in a bedding area about 75 yards away at 2:30. Then at 3, these 3 bucks came in and hung around me for about 40 minutes eating away. I almost let an arrow fly at the 8-point. His rack was outside the ears but I know there’s bigger around, and I only have the 1 buck tag left. If I see him again, maybe I’ll take the shot.

Then just before shooting light ended, another buck came in from the water but it got dark on me. I believe he went to that bedding area. Those 3 bucks went there also when they left.

Group of 3 (spike, 6-point, and 8-point)

I retired in 2022 and moved down here. Loving the amount of public land we have to hunt around here.
