It's certainly gotten the eastern bluebirds active.

Did not bring any ducks down to Big Branch. Hunted Thursday and saw two teal and a few Buffle Heads.

They stopped at the freeze line like always. The timberdoodles are feeding in my backyard right now though, strange times indeed.

New Roads, LA. I’m within the city limits so I’ll have to use the bow if I want some pot roasted birds.

This. Like I said in the last thread, majority will only migrate as far as they absolutely need to. A good number will try to "weather the storm" on the backside just for shits and giggles. Gone are the days of mass migration based on solunar conditions or photoreceptors. Some species still do, but overwhelming majority of ducks only move based on environmental conditions. Historically speaking, there is zero reason for ducks to be in IA, IL, northern MO in January, but yet there they were before this front...

I agree. An old guide once said, “early teal season results depends on the hatch because they’re coming south in late summer regardless but big ducks are staying put until forced south.”

I think for certain species like Pintails and BW Teal, they are still coming early regardless. Then you get Greys, GW Teal, and Spoons that probably still migrate regardless of weather but come a bit later. From what I have seen the last several seasons, these ducks can get thick in early November and then get blasted on Opening Day and they quickly readjust. They shift feeding patterns and start finding places like refuges to not get shot at. Then everybody wonders why there aren't any ducks when they are mostly here already. Mallards tend to be the ones that will not budge till they have too.

Last season I am pretty sure I saw a mass migration. It was that January ice storm that locked up damn near everything to South LA. I hunted some property up in NE LA the day everything started to lock up and we literally saw thousands of ducks moving South in the ozone riding the jet. It was pretty damn epic.

I saw this once. Never anything close to the event I saw. The ducks were flying in massive columns, not Vs. Every so often, a smallish group would peel off and target our fields.

We had a tremendous hunt for mallards at our place in Madison Parish around the 19th last year. Like the “good ol days”
