this isn't even going to be a stats based discussion. I'm a big fan of eerie similarities, that's why 2019 was so great because of the similarity between that season and 2011 and the curse reversal.

in 2018 Joe Burrow led a game deciding drive do or die against Auburn
in 2024 Nuss led a game deciding do or die drive against Ole Miss

In 2018, Joe Burrow loses a heart breaking game 3:30pm game at Florida, 27-19
In 2014, Nuss loses a heart breaking 3:30pm game at Florida, 27-16

In 2018, Joe burrow gets blown out at home by Alabama, in primetime, surrendering a strip sack fumble in his own territory that led to a Alabama score
In 2024, Nuss gets blown out at home by Alabama, in primetime, surrendering a strip sack fumble in his own territory that leads to an Alabama score

In 2018 Joe Burrow loses a hard fought game that felt in hand at points, on the road at A&M
In 2024 Nuss loses a hard fought fame that felt in hand at points, on the road at A&M

In 2019, Joe burrow led LSU into a true road game against a ranked opponent to kick off the greatest season in LSU history.
In 2025, Nuss leads LSU into Clemson........

I'm bored at work and there is too many basketball threads.

Before people go all bat shite crazy in this thread about “how dare you compare him to burrow,”

All I need is for Nus to be 74% burrow and I’m good.

I've seen enough. Nuss is the next Burrow. Thank you for this

Pretty impressive comparison honestly, but 2018 LSU finished 10-3 ranked #6 with a NY6 Bowl win

I see you omitted Joe’s win against #2 UGA. Nuss never had a win like that

quote:

In 2018 Joe Burrow loses a hard fought game that felt in hand at points, on the road at A&M
In 2024 Nuss loses a hard fought fame that felt in hand at points, on the road at A&M

This one seems like a huge stretch, but I see you’re just looking for “similarities”.

Joe in the 74-72 7OT loss:
25/38 270 yds 3TD 0 Int
29 rushes 100 yds 3TD

Nuss in the 38-23 loss:
25/50 405 yds 2 TD 3 Int
4 rushes -3 yards

both of them lost by 29 points, too

You missed where Joe Burrow beat a top 5 Georgia. Interesting. You should know that this type of reporting doesn’t work anymore. Tell the truth bud.

If Nuss doesn't start using his legs then he will not elevate to Joes status. Burrow could run when he needed to and it kept defenses honest. Nuss needs to take off when he needs to to pick up a first down a couple of times a game. This will prevent defenses from dropping 8 and will allow WRs to get open. AND, the ground game scheme needs improvement.

I also conveniently left off that Burrow beat Miami in a neutral field and Nuss lost but that doesn’t fit my narrative so we don’t have to talk about it

Joe had a better running scheme and backs as well in 2018. Nuss this year had to sling it more.

Nuss this year had to throw more interceptions and not scramble.

FIFY

And, comparing Nuss to Burrow is a worthless endeavor.

What were Burrow's passing stats that game? Defense (16 pts), run game (275 yds) and turnovers (2 INTs, 2 FR) were the difference. Name one game this season with that type of performance.

Both also had a bad mid season stretch. Burrow went 4 games with 0 TDs and 4 INTs.
Nuss had a 3 game stretch of losses and 4 TDs vs 5 INTs.

The OP posted some interesting facts that don't really mean more than an interesting coincidence. Obviously Burrow, JD and Nuss have very different styles and skill sets. They also had different year one to two circumstances. I expect a natural improvement, but not like Burrow or JD. That expectation is unrealistic. The fact that that happened at LSU twice within 5 years is extremely rare.

All the more reason to be hesitant for huge expectations next year. Those teams were much better.

Caleb Williams had some great games too. So did Myles Brennan. These comparisons are useless.

You can claim Nuss is as good as Patrick Mahomes. Nobody cares until they win.

In 2018 Burrow took a big hit against UCF and then played like a man possessed the rest of the game

in 2024, Nuss took a big hit against OU and then played like a man possessed the rest of the game (even took off running a few times and diving for first downs)

I agree. What will help him the most is for the run game to improve from 108th to somewhere middle of the pack which also means our worst rated players can't be our 2 IOL. Hats off to Delly for being the solid IOL player. Moore at C and Thompson taking over at one of the IOL spots hopefully helps.

why?

The people who like Nuss are going to support him here.

The people who don't will shite on him.

It is the same worn out bs.

while we weren't running well before he went out, the biggest impact was the pressure they were able to put on Nuss once he went down. I think we had 2 sacks on the season going into A&M. After half-time at A&M, when D had gone down....we had what, 10-12 sacks the rest of the year, and especially the Florida game when our RG was out as well.

you left out the fact that we were completely dominating A&M on the road in the first half, until our LG went down, then all hell broke loose up the middle during the second half, in terms of pressure....which the crowd capitalized on. In addition, obviously their QB made a difference, since we were basically the only team that had no answers against him.
