I’ll be the one to say it: Roast Beef sandwiches are overrated

Sorry, NYC, Chicago and Boston - anything that has mayo on a sandwich is gross and not better than a po’boy. It’s too big and messy to eat as a sandwich.
Any why is the sandwich called a three way?

Is it wrong that I like mayo on a sloppy roast beef po boy?

Hot Roast Beef (poboy) dripping with gravy checking in. Phenomenal.

I bet you didn’t have the ambition to make your own bed this morning and yet you want to remake the entire Big Sammich Industry and discredit the delightful condiment of mayonnaise?
fricking Trump.

Houston’s French Dip is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten.

If you are new in town and want to judge the quality of a food from a local restaurant - - order a roast beef poboy. This one poboy will tell you everything you need to know about the quality of every item on the menu..
1. Do they use Leidenheimer French Bread?
2. Do they cook their own roast beef?
3. Do they make their own gravy?
If the answer is not YES, YES, YES for all 3 of these, then it is a sub-par restaurant. They probably do not make their own salad dressings, use precooked shrimp, likely have iceberg instead of romaine lettuce for salads...and on and on.
The same is true for a pizza establishment -- order a pepperoni pizza.

Not all opinions are equal. I bet you've heard that before.

I agree. The Chicago style roast beef with giardiniera isn't good. The New Orleans roast beef isn't bad, but I'd rank shrimp, oyster, and ham above the roast beef.

Tell me you haven't been to Portillo's without telling me you haven't been to Portillo's.

My brother or sister in Christ, what you have said makes little sense. Chicago's Italian Beef (not a roast beef sandwich by any means) has no mayo and is very good. Also many po boys are made "fully dressed" which includese remoulade consisting of mayo and spices.

I don’t really consider a roast beef sandwich to be a Boston staple, but ok. If I think of a roast beef sandwich, I'm thinking of a poboy from New Orleans 10 times out of 10.
There’s a sandwich called the north shore beef that people do like. I’ve never had it but need to make the drive to the north shore to try one. Looks messy as hell.
