Lost rifle - Clinton, LA near Bluff Creek

I made a really bone-headed move after the Friday evening hunt. Left my rifle on the bench seat of the trailered side by side, and drove off to my camp. Realized it about an hour later and went back to look and no luck. Looked again hard yesterday morning. This happened near Joe Turner Rd and Hwy 959. If anyone happened to find & grab, I’d be willing to pay a nice reward. It’s a black Browning 30-06 a-bolt with a Nikon scope and a black claw strap.

That’s my biggest fear that I’d leave my rifle leaning against a tree while picking up gear in truck.
Hope you find it bud!

This first thing I do when I get to the truck is verify my rifle is unloaded and put it on the back seat.

Good luck, brother.
I would focus really hard on the area from where you first took off all the way to the first turn you made.
Also, if you’re like me, I would look around the area where I last remember touching my gun. Sometimes you think you set it somewhere, but you really lost it prior to that.
I am really good at losing things, but thank God I’m even better at finding them

A guy I work with has property right there. I will text him and tell him to ride by and keep an ear out.

I lost a dog like that once. She showed up at my buddy’s house two days later. Hopefully that rifle walks it’s way back to you.

I made that mistake with a M16 once when I was in the Army. Luckily it was still laying there when I drove back over to where we had been. I would probably still be doing push-ups if I hadn't found it

Report it missing to the sheriff
And a good time to plug Eastern insurance policy for guns and valuables $150/year and has like 30k worth of coverage and you do not have to list the guns you have

I did that last year. Propped my gun against the front of the truck anfter deer hunting, unlocked the gate, and drove off. Went duck hunting the next day and somehow it hit me - went back to my deer spot and gun was laying right there on the ground. Lucky mistake for me that day.

Sounds like you get to buy a new rifle!

This is true, already looking at options. Eager to hear feedback.

I called yesterday at 11am. Dispatcher told me that a deputy would call within the next 2-3 hrs. Still haven’t heard from anyone.

Man, I’ve hunted for decades and this is first for me. Long story short, was out of my typical routines and got preoccupied. It still stings - hard lesson to learn from.

Thank you man! I know several neighbors, spoke to some and most have been notified. If it made it to Hwy 959, there’s a slim chance that I’ll ever see again. I walked the ditches heavily without any luck.

If it makes you feel better. My brother had a custom guitar stolen from his house. He filed a police report and kept a an active Craigslist posting up.
Someone contacted him 10 years later saying they saw it in a pawn shop.

Obviously don’t use a gun, but you may try bringing someone with and recreating the scenario. It may have fallen off somewhere unexpected. In my experience it usually happens quick or takes a long time.
I left my laptop back pack on the top of my tool box and drove home 9 miles, I looked in the rear view mirror finally about 6 miles in when I was on the middle of a 3 mile bridge and it was just hanging out where I left it. There was something else there also I can’t remember what, like a flashlight or drill or something and both hadn’t moved. They were protected from the wind by the cab.

Crazy story and may I one up you

So my family used to go to North Carolina a lot for vacation when I was younger. Well one of my brothers had ear problems and needed drops whenever he got in water, so naturally we had them with us on the vacation.
Well we packed up and headed home, about a 12 hour drive, and the whole way home no one in the family could find the ear drops. We just assumed we left them. Come to find out, when we were unpacking the car and went to open the back, there were the ear drops! Sitting on the back bumper of the car for 12 hours!! It amazes everyone in the family that somehow some way those drops stayed on the bumper from North Carolina back to Louisiana

I’ve done that with sets of keys. Not 12 hours though.
