1984 World’s Fair Brochure (Link)

I had a season ticket to it and went many many times. It was a great event in every way except financially.

I made it a little past halfway and saw red beans and rice...Now I'm hungry.

It was supposed to stay open until 11 November but it ran out of money and closed early on my wedding day, 10/12/84.



ETA: I got overwhelmed by my wedding day, evidently the fair did indeed lurch to its final scheduled closing date of 11/11/84. Sorry for the miscommunication.

WRONG.

I worked the World's Fair from opening day to closing day, November 11, 1984. Worked in a official world's fair souvenir store right across from the Space Shuttle and the American pavilion.

I can assure you we worked the last day Sunday November 11th, selling marked down souvenirs all day long; we started drinking wine mid afternoon. Shut the doors to the store and we finished the last bottle and toasted the fair just outside the store as the fireworks went off.

News story of the closing:

using an inflation calculator it looks like tickets to the fair would be $45 in todays pricing. I wonder how that compares to todays pricing for something like this

I can only wonder what the Riverfront and warehouse district would have looked like without the Worlds Fair.
