Looking to try some new things this weekend... any suggestions?

I like a nice old fashioned when I am at a nice bar.
If you want something that will knock you on your arse, go to the Spotted Cat and order a shot of green chautres.
Neither of these are a N.O. drink, but I like them.
If you want to try a N.O. thing, go to a nicer bar and order a Sazerac.

I'd head to the Napoleon House for this. While it is a tourist haven, they make the best Sazerac in the city.
I'd also go to the Polo Lounge in the Windsor Court hotel to get a Mint Julep. While not exactly a New Orleans drink, it's a great drink in a great setting.

I used to love a Navy Grog
Bacardi Navy Grog
* 1/2 oz of Bacardi® light rum
* 1/2 oz of Bacardi® gold rum
* 1/2 oz of Bacardi® dark rum
* 1/2 oz of Grand Marnier® orange liqueur
* 1 oz of Grapefruit juice
* 1 oz of Orange juice
* 1 oz of Pineapple juice
Pour liquors into an ice-filled collins glass. Add juices, shake, and garnish with an orange wedge and pineapple chunk.
I have seen other recipes and rums, but this is my favorite version.

That is a great Mint Julep...
I will also suggest the Swizzle Stick Bar...they are experts over there and have an extensive drink menu.

St. Joe's makes an excellent mojito...not to mention that it's across the street from Whole Foods.

That's a good one...Blueberry Mojito at St. Joe's...Bridge Lounge mixes some damn good drinks as well.

Damn, I never even knew they had a blueberry one...that sounds pretty happenin'.
Didn't Bridge Lounge used to have bands play there...or maybe they still do??

they may call it a mojito,...as a marketing tactic
but there is no such thing as a Blueberry Mojito

They mix it the same and crush blueberries in it instead of mint (or with some mint...I forget).
I mean...a chocolate martini isn't really a martini either...technically.
Less liberty is taken there on the mojito than martini bars do when they butcher martinis.
I like dog night at the Bridge Lounge...Tuesdays I think.

Most refreshing..
Crescent City Cooler from Commanders Palace
(great on a humid day)
Basically Guava Rum, bitters and Ginger Ale
If I want to get drunk:
Monsoon or Hand Grenade (BTW dont ever attempt to drink 3 Monsoons, I may be the only person ever thrown out of Molly's after that night)

Never had a blueberry one, but had a kumquat mojito (muddled with kumquats and mint) at Spice Market in New York that was pretty fantastic.
Adding one flavor to an existing drink recipe (ala mojito), and calling it a _______ mojito, is a bit different than sticking any concoction you can pull out of your arse in a martini glass (whether it has any relation to a martini or not) and calling it a ______ martini.

an old fashioned at a high end bar or restaurant. It's not uniquely new orleans, but none of the locally created drinks have really wowed me.
I haven't tried them all of course. have tried most of the nasty sweet ones on bourbon, monsoon (better than i expected), sazerac, blueberry mojito, primm's cup, and probably a few others. Not saying they all suck or anything, just can't say i have ever really wished i had one, craved one, etc.
eta: the martinis at commanders were also excellent.

Bourbon or rye whiskey (Clancy's uses rye), muddled with a cherry and lemon, add a dash of bitters and a bit of simple syrup or sugar, often topped with a splash of soda.

never had it there, need to try it.
drink of choice at a regular is bourbon and water, so the old fashioned is a natural step up.

I don't care for Skylabs, Mint Juleps, or hand Grenades. Guess I should have said that from the beginning. I like cool, refreshing drinks that taste good. I've had a Crescent City Cooler made by the woman who invented the drink, and I thought it was OK. My favorite drinks in N.O. are the Shark Attack, 57 Chevy, and Rainstorm. I've had all the specialties at Old Absinthe House (Ramos Gin Fizz, etc.) and Purple Voodoo from Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. Just looking for something new and different to try. Someone else suggested a Vieux Carre from the Carousel Bar at the Monteleone.
