Anderson’s fumble

That was a pretty rough face-mask that contributed to the fumble. Surprised it was a no call.

I thought it was a definite face mask. Looked pretty obvious on replay.

IMO, it was not a face mark. I watched it again and in slo-mo. The Baylor guy grabbed his shoulder pad. It was neither a face mask nor a horse collar. The refs got that one right.

I was there. I was for sure it was a face mask live. On replay I was shown otherwise. Good punch out

Respectfully disagree, slow motion shows the hand hook the face mask (you can obviously see Anderson head being pulled down) he lets go of the face mask and then pulls the shoulder pad but lets go before a horse collar. Just my opinion.. I have slow motion shots but I still don not know how to post pics on this site lol

I didn't see it that way. It looked like he caught the edge of the helmet opening and turned his head which is a facemask under the rule.
“No player shall grasp and then twist, turn or pull the facemask, chin strap or any helmet opening of an opponent.”
But it is not crystal clear even in slow motion on the YouTube replay I watched but it is clear to me that his hand was not on the shoulder pad when Anderson's head was being turned around.
It is all academic now, though. LSU won and this game moved Anderson ahead of Lacy as the top receiver in terms of yards.

Thought so when watching as well. Negating that fumble and going down to score then would have put the game away.

Anderson had a BAD NIGHT all the day, was probably soley responsible for 21 points going our way.

Carter PowerHour I kind of agree on here. Anderson didnt have a good day, but this is a pretty extreme case of blaming him. 1 his facemask was being turned on him and 2 the hit to the ball was perfect and you dont often see that kind of perfect punch out like that. Just a lucky play by Baylor (for the perfect hit on the ball while the guy's facemask was being turned on him) and hard to blame Anderson a ton for it looking at replay.

That was a tough play for AA and its football so a close face mask, near horse collar, and punch out caused a fumble. No problem with his performance here.
However, he dropped two straight passes that would have made it 35 - 7. Those two drops in that situation were symbolic of why the team didn't make the playoffs this year. USC and A&M were games we win without drops and miscues by the WRs. That's how close we were this year, and it showed up again in the bowl game. When you have a QB like Nuss and a young O-Line and defense, the WRs have to catch the ball and keep the pressure on. Gone are the days in College Football where the defense can shut down teams game after game like we saw under Miles. Score and score often is now the game and 7-point drops can come back to haunt you.

Not a great day for AA, butterfingers, he's had some drop issues, but overall I think he took a big step forward this year and if he can clean his game up a little it could be special for him and the offense next year with Hilton playing on the outside like he can and Green working at TE.

The rules need to change. It used to be illegal to fully draw back your arm and deliver a blow with a closed fist. Helping the runner used to be a penalty. An Arizona State lineman grabbed his running back and essentially threw him into the end zone in the game yesterday; that is ridiculous.

Totally agree. We were that close this year which is why I like the direction of the Program for 2025. AA made a great clutch catch against Ole Miss and other clutch conversions this year. Just need to clean up the miscues.

Forgive my ignorance, but can a facemask be called from a review?
I don't remember them reviewing the play bc it was obvious, but I think every turnover and touchdown is reviewed by the mysterious overlords of college football.

idk I think the announcer made the catches in the endzone seem easier than they were.
Obviously good players come down with them, but it’s not just catching the ball when you’re on the edge of the endzone you have to coordinate everything.

Penalties have to be called first, then they could be overturned. Officials can’t watch the tape and then call a penalty on something the they originally missed. AA’s facemask was pretty obvious… can’t believe they missed that.
