Since you’re heading to Istanbul, schedule enough time to be able to hit the lounge (*A) and eat. Preferably at least twice. It’s awesome.

And when you’re heading into the airport to leave, remember it’s a third world country. And they act like it. Chaotic.

We're flying out on Air France which is SkyTeam, so unfortunately we won't have access to the TK lounge. Our flight also leaves at 5AM.....

Nicely done... I didn't get any new countries and only one new airport last year.

58 flights though.

2024… On one hand a year to remember and also one to forget. Been a wild ride.

I covered 28,000 miles. A bit less than in 2023.

Cities visited…

Atlanta
Munich, Germany
Salzburg, Austria
Hallstatt, Austria
Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic
Prague, Czech Republic
Vienna, Austria
Budapest, Hungary
Helsinki, Finland
Tallinn, Estonia
Riga, Latvia
Toronto, Canada
Minneapolis
Indianapolis
Mexico City, Mexico
Buffalo
Niagara Falls

Cities I fell in love with… Prague and Tallinn; just fricking gorgeous. Vienna and Budapest right up there too. Second time in Riga; still a fav.

Biggest surprises… Mexico City and Toronto. Great action for foodies in particular.

I swear, everyone who visits Mexico City loves Mexico City. I need to get down there.

I think it’s a perfect three or four day getaway. AeroMexico recently started doing direct flights out of my home airport in Tampa. You can occasionally catch a promo fare for about $200-$250.

It is a positively enormous city. Depending on your interests; where you will want to set up your stay becomes important. I am into history so staying in the central Zócalo area made sense for us. If you are more interested in nightlife and food, staying in the newer downtown area is probably a better option.

There’s a couple of amazing museums and ruins that are fantastically cheap to visit. We ate at Michelin rated restaurants and often did so for less than $20 per person and that included drinks. There are Michelin rated taco joints charging roughly one dollar each throughout the city.

I booked a hot air balloon trip over the pyramids at Teotihuacán for the missus and myself. Amazing experience.

The big drawback is traffic. Both vehicle and pedestrian. It is the most crowded city I have visited and I’ve had the occasion to visit places like Istanbul, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Getting around using Uber/Bolt is cheap; but, a simple 4 mile trip may take an hour.

New Countries, New Airports, New Airlines, New Aircraft: (0)

Shortest Flight: IAH-BTR, 253 mi
Longest Flight: MSY-SLC, 1428 mi

Total Airports: 7
Total Flights: 22
Total Miles Flown: 18033 mi

Different year of travel for me, boring by the map standards, but very exciting in other ways. We moved our family to Utah in June, so most of the yearly travel was dedicated to going back and forth between UT and LA. 5 round trip flights, 1 one-way and 2 road trips to be exact. I did squeak in a solo ski trip to Colorado in January.

Only thing "new" was the non-stop from SLC to MSY on Delta, which is quite nice. Barely over 3 hours flying time was great with small children.

Next year will probably be a lot less flying and a lot of great road trips around the west. Hopefully, I'll get a few flights with just me and my wife.

Have been a few times and really enjoy it. It's so damn big, but I usually stay in Roma Norte (like most people) and walk through a few neighborhoods over a long weekend. Super accessible from ORD, too. Shorter flight time than going to LAX, SAN, SNA, and SFO for work.

Stayed in the Americas this year. Exciting travel this coming spring, though!

ETA: Ugh, not sure why Imgur link isn't working. Anyway, basically did a bunch of domestic routes + Toronto and a few spots in South America and Mexico.

Was supposed to do Toronto to close out 2024 but had to pull the plug at the last minute. Based on this thread I need to plan a return trip ASAP and also get to Mexico City

For me the big trip last year was two weeks in France, a Viking Bordeaux river cruise followed by a week in Paris.

There was also Vegas and Destin.

I'm probably still a few decades away from doing a Viking cruise, but everyone who goes raves about them.
