Widely believed to be the definitive Juliet Capulet and one of the very first scream queens.

quote:

Olivia Hussey Eisley, the actress who shot to fame as one of the star-crossed lovers in Franco Zeffirelli’s controversial Romeo and Juliet in 1968, died peacefully today at home surrounded by her loved ones, according to a post on her Instagram page. She was 73.

Hussey’s credits also include Death on the Nile opposite Peter Ustinov; Psycho IV: The Beginning in which she played Norma Bates and the 1990 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s It.

She worked again with Zeffirelli when she played Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the 1977 television movie Jesus of Nazareth.

In 2022, Hussey and Whiting sued Paramount Pictures, alleging that Zeffirelli violated their consent on Romeo and Juliet by filming them nude without their knowledge. Hussey and Whiting were 15 and 16 years old, respectively, when the film was shot. Estimating that the film has made over $500 million since its pre-Summer of Love release, the duo sought $100 million in damages

The claims were distinct from what Hussey said in 2018 when she spoke of the nudity in the film. Back then, plugging a new memoir, the actress told Fox News that the nudity “wasn’t that big of a deal.”

I remember seeing her distinctions in 9th grade. They were nice.

Why would you rather be known as a Hussey instead of an Eisley?

Our English teacher in 8th grade put a poster board over the screen when that scene came on... thinking it would cover the screen. Which it did. But it was white... and the scene showed perfectly fine on the poster board.

So, let's just get it out of the way that it's fricked up to be filming minors nude.

With that said, I don't understand the above argument. Why were they nude on set in the first place if they didn't know it was being filmed?

I'll always remember the day my junior high class went on a field trip to see Romeo and Juliet at the theater and we all got to see Olivia's boobies.

It was a magical time.

My English teacher in 9th grade was out the day we watched this. Our sub had no idea what was coming. One of my classmates paused the video at the perfect moment and it took an embarrassing long time for our sub to realize what was going on before she hurriedly tried to fast forward thru the scene

Our odd little English teacher in 9th grade just said “be mature” and let it roll.

Spoiler…we were not mature.

Hussey. Yeah, not the best name ever.

Right up there with Poots and Tudyk.

Yep. Before Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween there was Olivia Hussey in Black Christmas.

I went on an EF tour to England and we went and saw Cleopatra between my freshman and sophomore year.

I knew the historical story but did not expect her to pull her girls out and stick an adder on there at that age in theater.

Her husband, David Glen Eisley, was the lead singer of Giuffria and wrote the song "Sweet Victory" that Spongebob used.
