Sitting with 13 year old daughter on plot with a lane that runs between young pines. Son is sitting 1/2 mile north

I love this girl so much, but she’s already said 10,000+ words before the son came up…lol

I’ve killed three bucks from this stand on this date over the years. Great rut setup.

Just pulled out the driveway with the camper and 4 wheeler. Supposed to be heading to Richard yancey but the forecast has possible tornados tomorrow, and I’m not doing that in a 7x14 enclosed trailer. So I decided to head back to my area 2 spot until Sunday and then move toward Yancey. Hopefully it’s still going down in area 2 and I can make something happen.

With the lack of winter this year, I made sure to pack 2. However, I forgot to pack a deer ice chest and a beer ice chest. I knew I was forgetting something. It never fails lol

Wanting to leave work so I can hunt the rut

I'm thinking I am gonna head up tomorrow morning and get in the stand during the rain. Looks like it should slack up where I'll be around 8am and hopefully catch some deer moving around after it's over.

Good luck to you baws in the stand today

Weather here will be arse today and tomorrow, so I'm kind of working today. If I can time thunderstorms ending tomorrow to be out right after, I will, but hourly right now has the risk all day. Then more rain Saturday night. So I might drive out early Sunday and sit until it ends and then climb. Anyway, I'm done rambling about weather for now, I hope y'all get em! Love to hear about the kids getting theirs, hoping to bring one of mine out a couple more times this year.

Sitting on my chair because my 14 y/o boy is apparently a vampire sleeping at 1026 EDT and doesn't understand that you can't kill deer if you're not in the woods.

My oldest child was my hunting buddy. She's 22 now and going to school in Miami. I'd pay anything for those incessant chattering moments in an early morning stand on a deer hunt. Cherish the gibberish. It is a fleeting moment in time.

What part of the parish are you in? I've seen a few young bucks bumping does but no wide open chasing yet.

I work in St Francisville, but hunt in Norwood.

I've seen about what you've seen so far. Had a young buck lightly jog after a doe down a powerline 2 weeks ago. Then last weekend one of our guys said he saw a young spike wanting to start chasing a little harder.

The rut for us always seems to take a while to really get going. Never happens until after Christmas though.

My camera just synced, I had a decent buck bump the does off of the feeder lat night. First potential shooter I've seen at this property. It's only 4 or 5 acres so I can't really go after him. Hopefully he starts daylighting with the does when the rut is wide open. I have a whole herd of them come through every morning and evening. This is off of 61 north of St Fran.

I don't think he's old, though.

I’d sit that feeder once this weather pushes past Sunday.

Area 2
Hot af
35 whelen

Got camp set up and hauled arse to the woods. 1 stick high in my saddle. I’m in a funnel between 2 lakes, it’s probably 150 yards of land, with about 100 being thick stuff and the other 50, open hardwoods. Theres a little ditch running between the lakes with about 5-6 heavily used trails crossing it on the thick side. Naturally, the deer feel safer moving in the thick stuff rather than the open woods, but this 1 little ditch gives me about a 60-70 yard shot. I found it last year but never hunted it until today.
It doesn’t feel good outside, but it feels good to be back outside!

Area 4
76 degrees and hot as ballz
Box stand on the “camp plot”
Tikka 308
T shirt and thermacell
One miller lite and a deer gravy in the oven.
Zero optimism but probably will shoot a wall hanger.

Seems like the weather passed through the night in SW MS and I could have hunted today. Tomorrow looks like a wash so plan to head back Sunday.

Going to try and smash some speckled trout tomorrow morning.

I thought the same thing. I just shoot does for meat so I'm trying to only shoot mature deer, especially with a rifle. The folks around me are pretty selective about what they shoot so trying to do the same.
