For any teaching veterans, this is not to insult you. The profession has changed dramatically in the last 20 years, and especially in the last five. It makes me wonder what kind of lunatic would choose this now. I have to think there are three types these days:

1 Idealistic white women who want an easy job and also maybe actually want to teach but plan to get married and stop working within three years of graduating.

2 Lazy women who don't want to try to learn anything and just default to teaching since any idiot who graduates can do it, then stick to it because they can't do anything else.

3 Loser men who don't want the stigma of not going to college but don't have the intelligence or drive to do anything real so default to teaching because they're brainless. They'd rather make 1/3 of the money as manual labor as long as they can tell people they're college educated.

Anyone else?

My daughter got fed up with it. Told what she could and couldn’t teach and idiots in charge. Back to the private sector working hard but happy with it.

Young liberal white suburban women who have completely bought into the left’s narrative of things like abortion, transgenderism, white privilege and open borders.

In rural areas - for people who don’t want to move off from their roots/heritage - it’s still a pretty decent gig. It’s either teach or work in a prison where I live - if you’re not born into farming.

Can’t get teachers in n Hillsborough County, one of the largest districts in America.

They’re gonna have to start paying more, and raise taxes, because no one wants to do this job.

frick that. Teachers should be getting paid less and taxes should be going down. They are already making a killing as it is.

Sadist, my last gig was contracting to the military (adults).

I wouldn't even teach college.

I mean good job of generalizing. I am a 12 year veteran of teaching. To be honest i became a teacher to coach. Originally to become a high school football coach. But, started out in middle school. Realized the time constraints of a young family with a successful wife and coaching football. Decided to stay in middle school. I enjoy seeing my former athletes go to high school and do well and some even go play in college.
I don’t mind the teaching aspect and am fairly good at it, without putting in the crazy after school grading and planning some teachers do. Hell, I got my schools teacher of the year this past year. That was a decent bonus in some pay. Like I said, I have a wife who is successful at her career, so we live very comfortably. Most new male teachers who get into teaching, typically do it to coach. You left that off your reasons.

You people are demented.

Whenever you say "easy job," I tune you out. Spend 1 class period with any grade level and get back to me.

It seems like many positions of authority, the socialist/idealists realized they could do more for their cause by getting in to careers where they can manipulate. Like pedos that become priests, they have impressionable young kids who will listen to what they have to say and want to “do well in school”, so will do what their teachers wants. Their jobs are pretty secure, can’t be questioned, not much anctual accountability and if they do get caught doing something, the unions will keep their jobs. Basically worthless piles of shite.

Fifty years ago about half of HS teachers were male. Today they are scarce. I think it deals with money. The female teachers do fine with a husband who works.
About five years ago my morning drive to town every day took me by an elementary school at the time that teachers were crossing from their parking lot to the school building. So, I always had to stop to let them cross. About 80% of them were obese. I didn't have any obese teachers in the 1950s.

My sister is a substitute teacher. Largely because she was a stay at home mom for 5 kids, but now that they're moving out to college she wants to get back into the workforce.

That aside, way too many of them are rainbow pride freaks that feel oppressed if they cannot share their sexual preferences, or ID gender with children.

And a lot of liberal black women who absolutely. HAVE to teach girls they don't need no man, and that they are queens and goddesses who have no shame in being hos.

THAT would have been my primary IT instructor. Worthless, and a garbage human.
Never spent a single day working tech support or IT.
