Much like Underwood too, except Simmons was never committed to LSU.

From a buddy with Texas ties, it wasn’t as much about not getting enough money for him as it was the way Texas had a better setup and schooling for his special needs brother and being closer to family.

At the top of my sour grapes list. We have to figure out how to compete with Texas in recruiting more than any other specific school. We lost several good ones to them due to some deep pockets they have supporting them.

You aren’t going to win many battles head to head against them for players from Texas the way things are at the moment. That’s just how it is.

Focus on keeping guys from LA who they come after home and players from Texas who are easier pulls. Guys who Texas isn’t after, aren’t priorities for them, or who you have a particular connection with.

It’s going to be difficult. LSU used to be able to sell the idea of playing in the SEC and now they don’t have to leave the state. Texas is a bigger brand than LSU.

Whether you want to hear it or not, Texas also has better facilities across campus and deeper pockets. They’re spending $75m to upgrade their player facilities.

Yep. We lost an advantage when they joined. Current NIL situation and their deep pockets add to them being a serious player for top recruits.

Austin is California East now. The amount of Cali transplants all congested into one city is staggering.

I seriously doubt the gap is that big.

Texas has been absolute trash in football for a long time. This year, they got the easiest schedule in the SEC and still lost to Georgia twice.

They had to pay Simmons big to keep him from leaving the state. That doesn't speak highly of their brand.

Yes, they will recruit well, and yes, it will be hard to get players out of Texas that UTa wants. It's also hard to get players out of Mississippi that Ole Miss or State wants.

I just don't see us being at some kind of massive disadvantage with Texas being in the conference now. So maybe they get a couple more 5 stars every year than we do. So what? Establish relationships with high school coaches in Texas. Maintain recruiting efforts in the state. Maybe a player we wanted doesn't get the playing time he wants at Texas and we could use him. How hard is it to convince his high school coach to call that player and tell him he'd get more at LSU?

They can bitch about tampering all they want, but nothing will be done about it. Every single player on every single team's roster is an eligible recruit.
