NBC News has asked the Israel Defense forces for comment on the report. It has strongly rejected accusations of genocide and ethnic cleansing in the past, while insisting that it does everything possible to limit the loss of human life.

The basic precept of Judiasm is that the Jews are a separate and superior race. This results in a two tier system of morality, there are restrictive rules governing their behavior with each other, and permissive rules governing how they interact with non Jews. You saw this in the aftermath of October 7th with Israelis calling for the genocide of the Palestinians. Within their religious and moral framework, genocide is permissible and not extreme, it’s something that the ancient Hebrews did and Ban, wars of extinction, remain permissible today.
One of the oddities with Judaism from a Christian perspective is the degree to which the faithful can lawyer the rules. For example you have the ritual of kapparot, where you can transfer your sins to a chicken, which you then kill. So while there are restrictions, they’re functionally much weaker. Gaming things is considering normal, and you'd be a chump if you didn't.
Edit - perhaps the best way to understand them, is to see them as a Bronze Age or Iron Age people who are willing to do anything to ensure the success and survival of their tribe. Note, I do not mean this as pejorative, but as a functional device to understand them.
