Playing as Ciri and not Geralt? I'm intrigued.

Good trailer.

I’m so fricking happy it’s an established character and not a custom character creator. I am also fine with Ciri being the main protagonist she’s amazing. I still have my fears about CDPR selling out to globohomo but I think that is really going to make itself known in Witcher 1 remake which won’t have near the brand damage as it would here. Also Ciri is an EXTREMELY established character with so much background and lore you can’t really make her anything she isnt. I’m actually very excited for this game now now I know it’s coming for a narrative perspective of a fixed protagonist

As I said in the other thread. I love Ciri. But I didn’t enjoy playing as her. Still absolutely will get and love. But still disappointed

The problem with Ciri is that book Ciri is vastly, extremely, absurdly too powerful to be a PC. Her representation in TW3 was watered down as shite, which is why she wasn’t fun to play. I’m not sure how they manage to thread that needle without some crazy retconning.

When this game was announced they said it wouldn't be Great, though he will likely make an appearance. I thought I saw somewhere this game was gonna be about Lambert or Ezkell but I guess that isn't the case.

My guess?

Since it seems with this path they have taken there’s no other option than to officially canonize an ending where ciri becomes a Witcher which is the best ending where geralt got all the right actions and she banished the white frost or defeated it it’s never explained. If my job was to write one of the most op characters in fiction into the next title as main character I’d use something like “dealing with the white frost sapped most her special bloodlines powers and it can only be activated in spurts or in extreme circumstances and she now has to rely on her Witcher training.” Something like a limit break in Ff or limit it to story events

I'm sure it will be good. Playing as Ciri makes logical sense considering how Witcher 3 ended and this follows sorta the most cannon ending of that game.

Ciri being much older and more weathered and generally haggered looking is probably way more realistic to the spirit of the story they are presenting, but let's face it she is way, way, way less hot than she was. She looks 15 years older and 50 lb heavier.

I don't think they did it for "modern audience" reasons but still, I prefer hot Ciri better lore be damned.

Same. I just really really hope it isn’t a bait and switch. CDPR have not actually produced anything of poor quality or woke or preachy or bait and switch or etc. So I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until they actually do. But man having a guy pledge his love of ESG in what looks like a hostage video and giving out monthly menstrual leave to women while your website is plastered with dei all over it gives me worries I’m not going to lie

And a lot of the times I don’t think it’s the politics of the devs themselves that makes these games like bad every time. It’s that when they make it the primary focus over making s good game. See veilgaurd. Again though cdpr has my good will and faith until they produce a product to lose it

I think going with Ciri is not a smart move. Its a weird deviation from both books and game stories to have her be mutated.

The main issue...is that in general boys play video games, not girls. If you polled 100 fans of these games and asked them if theyd be more likely to play if Ciri was playable character or a new story male witcher was the playable character, youd probably get 98 to say new character

The CD guys are very much the folks to cater to this stuff. Ive visited Poland a few times now and the young folks are definitely into the woke stuff.

They clearly were mirroring the Witcher 3 trailer where Geralt fought the vampire lady.

Decided to see what the Witcher sub has to say and it was pretty overwhelmingly negative much to my surprise.

They wanted to completely get away from the previous characters and have a new, fresh storyline.

They preferred some other ending form Witcher 3 as their own preferred ending, not Ciri becoming a Witcher.

They pointed out how terribly they were gonna have to butcher the lore to make this try to work.

Did not like the new Ciri look and particularly didn't like the new voice actress.

Thought they tried too hard to make Ciri "girl Geralt"

Etc

They made a lot of good points and overall they are probably right.

Im really just past the age where I really care to play these games anymore. If you had given me a new story with new places to go, id have probably paid the money and dusted off the xbox in the closet. As a huge fan of the books, it just is a leap too far for me to get invested in the story if they really go this route

CD projekt red is gonna find out the hard way that 15 year old boys dont want to play a game as a unattractive, middle aged girl boss

If Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk taught me anything, it’s to never buy a CD Projekt Red game at launch

Yeah I never found the "character" of Ciri all that interesting to begin with, her one redeeming quality was she was attractive, beyond that she was largely just a macguffin for the plot. I never played Witcher 1 and 2 though.

What little we saw, she was playful and sassy and girly, not the scowling, angry, gruff chick we saw there. Given the trailer itself I get it though.

People are just worried they are gonna botch up the "perfect' Witcher 3 endings.

I think the point is that we're getting Ciri who's been a Witcher for many years and has seen a lot of terrible shite.

The story will probably leave room for choices by the player to either help her recapture that playful nature of her youth or become dark and troubled.

It's a fricking dark fantasy world. I doubt many folks stay happy and sassy, especially Witchers. Yeah, they have their moments, but playing W3 had a lot more "holy frick that's dark" moments than "these guys are just goofing around" moments.
