I don’t know how these journalists even make a livable salary. They try so hard to be right that they’re willing to put their credibility on the line whenever and take shots in the dark and hope one sticks

Because none of them in any industry cares about actually being right.
They care about being first. News cycle is too short to actually provide factual information.
