Cross Country Driving Jobs

I'm seriously thinking about hitting the retirement button in 2025 and am starting to look at non traditional retirement jobs.
I'd like something where i can see the country, especially out west. I don't want a ton of responsibility and don't need a lot money and am tired of corporate culture. I do not want to drive semis.
I know a retired couple (i only see them once a year or so) who deliver campers cross country, they'll catch a delivery from say GA to Cali and on the return trip stay at national parks for a couple of weeks, they own the tow vehicles. I've also heard of people who fly to a destination, pick up a car at a dealership and drive it to another dealership (in their home city).
I know there are hotshot drivers, but don't want to spend $100k on a tow vehicle and $10k on a trailer.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

My MIL's boyfriend has a 3/4 ton truck and moves stuff around the state and country. Most of it is in-state but he's had to go as far as South Florida and the Southwest US to deliver products. Doing the math on a new vehicle with all that you need + certifications + required equipment, you would be looking at being $60k deep. Call you at any moment's notice and you do have an opportunity to bring something back if it's a local job and get paid for the return trip. He'll sleep in his truck at times to save money on hotels since they don't cover that. Insurance is paid on your own and they have a required limit you need to meet. Have a spotless driving record.
He's in his 60s and loves it because it's very easy money and he doesn't do much else. Gas is the biggest expense. When on call he be called in at any moment and go for a 6 hour round trip immediately. It looks like a good job to do if you have nothing else to do at home.

I’ve been thinking of this a lot lately. I still have 10 more years that I wanted to work but it’s becoming grueling

I know there are van delivery guys who do custom stuff. Saw on guy who got paint haul a screw from spaceX California to SpaceX Texas.

I want the hotel auditing job. Basically, major hotel chains pay you to travel, stay at their hotels, and report back.

My Dad is retired and hauls campers. He does have 3/4 ton diesel. Start a llc, get DOT numbers and get your truck up to regs and that's it.
There's an app where you claim jobs. Drive up to north Indiana and hook up the rig. Best case you haul one load to destination and another back towards home. They get fuel discounts for diesel.
You can do motorhomes but need a cdl. They offer discounts on rental cars too

Those Cargo Vans with a sleeper in them that can fit two 48x40x40 pallets and handle up to ~3000 lbs are awesome if you can get some steady freight. A guy here in Memphis does well running his van out West to trade shows. He likes the trade show circuit because he hangs out in Vegas or Denver for 2-3 days until the show is over. Then he loads everything back up and brings it back East. Gets paid both directions. He told me it's easy to pass business cards at a show cause everyone is open to being sold to anyway. He'll have multiple customers/leads reaching out for pricing for that same show the next year and can ensure his rates stay where they need to be. Do the same thing with the campers. Get you some Vista Print cards and every time you pick up a camper put one on their Traffic/Logistics Manager.

Company I worked for had a $100k+ bucket truck delivered to them by a retired couple.
Husband drives, wife navigates and schedules hotels on the way and airfare home.
They work as much or as little as they want.
Years back I ran across a guy who moves monkeys and gorillas to and from medical labs.
F250 + Cargo trailer with A/C.

Large majority of career Hotshot/truck drivers retire with debilitating back issues and often MI's before 60yr.

He does both. That may be a requirement, I can't remember.

I'm an OTR trucker, it sucks arse. Most of this industry has gone down the toilet since covid and now the corporations are importing Indians by the container to drive the semis for half the price that American drivers demand. Truck stops now charge for us to park, warehouses refuse to let us use their bathrooms becuase the indians and mexicans don't know how to use a toilet properly, etc.
I have one year left of this shite and I'll be debt free and can go do whatever tf I want - it won't be OTR trucking though.
