Is it too much to expect LSU football to be in the 12 team playoff every year?

I don't think it is.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Just wait till next year

It depends on your definition of expectations. Its a new college football world. Not making the playoffs means the season was not a success, whether that was expected or not.
Personally, each season moving forward under the 12 team playoff format, is a failure if we are not at the very least 9-3 and be in the playoff discussion.

If LSU was in any conference but the SEC, LSU should fully expect to be in the 12 team conference every year. SEC can be very very difficult road.

Lose one less SEC game and we are in

If Les was still the coach it would be giving… I could be remembering wrong but it always seemed like he was 10-2 at worst 9-3

Considering we didn’t make it the first year. Yes.

Apparently yes and we should be happy about it, we’re just spoiled is what I’m told.

Depends on how you view LSU as a program. Schools like Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Ohio State might be in it 80% of the time. If you feel like LSU is on the level of those schools then that should be you expectations

Yes! This is exactly the way I think.

I’d say we should expect us to make it 60-70 percent of the time

I mean, subjectively I think not, but objectively maybe it is too much to expect it, every year. Admittedly, this is year one, but it looks like the top 4 SEC teams will get into the playoffs, but maybe most years the top 3?
So coming off of the recent signing day and knowing the impact NIL had that, and that we're losing ~50% of each recruting class to the portal then have to rebuild the team each year also through the portal, LSU would need to be at least #3 in the SEC, currently ranked as:
-UGA (3)
-TEX (5)
-Bama (11)
-TN (7)
-USC (14)
-Ole Miss (13)
-MO (21)
-UF
-Vandy
-Ark
-A&M
-Auburn
-OU
-UK
-MS St
So in order to be at least #3 a team would need to go 6-2 in the SEC. There are a lot of variable listed up there, plus injuries (what if Hilton and Guillory were healthy this year?) So I think I've talked myself into thinking it is too much to ask that LSU consistently be among the top 3 strongest programs in the SEC, year in and out, but maybe I just have low expectations.

Look at UGA, they start the season saying this exact thing, but that didn't save them from Ole Miss, and Bama and close wins against UF and GT
The hot and cold will be more extreme in the coming college football climate.

For LSU? No, that should be the standard. Won't happen with Kelly.

Yes. We haven’t been that type of consistent program.

EVERY year? Yes, why do you think we should be in the playoff every single year at only 12 teams? We've hardly proven to be a consistent Top 10 type of team going into the postseason for a very long time now.
Thinking we should be in a 12 team playoff which has 4 auto-bids outside the SEC itself is extremely ridiculous expectations for our program. We're a maybe 3/10 or 4/10 years type of program IMO. MAYBE half the time, but even then thats asking a lot for a 12 team playoff where 4 spots are pre-taken we cant get. Maybe in a 16 team playoff because we've kind of lived in that 15ish range quite a few years
